Can OCD thoughts cause someone to become delusional or hallucinate? Or just become unaware and become psychotic?? I’m so scared
Maybe there are other members of my Church on here, idk, but basically my boyfriend is serving a 2-year mission for my Church and I’ve decided to wait for him, meaning I’m not going to date anyone else while he’s gone and I’m going to marry him when he gets home. I am absolutely 100% doing this. It’s a decision I’ve made through a lot of prayer and I’m very very confident in it. HOWEVER I also have OCD. It’s kind of a cliche within my church’s culture that people always say they’re going to wait but then they don’t, they end up finding and marrying someone else. Only my parents really know that I’m legitimately waiting for him, and my mom is super supportive, but my dad will say stuff like “so are you ready to date other people yet” or “yeah just give it time you won’t feel that way in a few months” and I HATE IT. It’s so triggering. I’m sure tons of other people will say similar things if they find out or suspect that I’m waiting, so I need to figure out how to tackle the barrage of obsessive worry that comes as a result of these comments. I immediately begin to worry that I will “find” someone else, and there’s just nothing I can do about it, my life and my feelings are completely out of my control and our whole relationship is going to be lost because I have no self-control. I know this isn’t true!! I know this!! I know that he is the ONE and I hate having these worries. AND THEN because of those worries, I start obsessively worrying that I’m not secure enough in my decision, which just makes me feel even worse like I really have no control and it’s all going to fall apart and everyone will be sad and it’ll be all my fault. It’s so stupid, I know it’s so stupid, but it feels sooooo real. How can I combat the triggers of other peoples’ comments on my relationship??
I’ve been considering going to therapy or going for a psych evaluation as I am undiagnosed but am concerned after reading online about what and what not to tell people. My issue has everything to do with violent thoughts and i’ve read that some therapists or doctors have been known to call the police or notify those involved in said thoughts and it’s possible to essentially get mentally hospitalized etc etc? i’ve been trying to bring myself to reach out for help for over a year now and this is a huge problem for me. does anyone have any experience w a situation like this or any advice? literally any type of feed back at all is appreciated. Hope everyone is doing well
18+ When i was 15 - 17 years old I use to go on sites and apps like omegle and ask people if they wanna have cam sex with me. I have developed real event ocd over this beacause this behavior isn’t something Im proud about. I think I had an addiction to doing this aswell. It started as a porn addiction and turned in to cam sex with strangers addiction I think. But the thing is, now I have this extreme guilt of “what if some one was too young” If I only could remember everything that happend. “What If I flashed myself to someone that didn’t wanna see”. “What if someone got traumatized” I can’t accept does things. I’m 19 years old now I’m scared to open up to my therapist about this.
I just joined this app today and need someone to understand me or just listen to me. I have been suffering from extremely violent and gruesome intrusive thoughts mainly regarding my 3 year old toddler. I have noticed a peak in my intrusive thought struggle with a mass shooting occurs. I have a debilitating fear of a school shooting happening at my sons daycare. I am not going to get into the details but it is just so sickening that I can’t even type out what my head thinks. My problem is I self sabotage by reading about shootings until the story consumes me. Most recently the Highland Park shooting. I am worried because it has gotten to the point where I simply CANNOT sleep without taking something that knocks me out, otherwise I lay in bed with my chest so tight I can’t breathe letting these horrible visions play over and over again. I don’t want to be dependent on a downer to put me to sleep and an upper to get me through the day. This is the first time I am sharing my experience and it feels really good to get this off my chest. Please if anyone has gone through this and can offer anything please share it with me. I can’t go on like this
I keep randomly getting scary evil/ demonic images or thoughts in my head. I can’t specifically describe how or what they are but I just feel scared & unsettled I feel like I’m possessed or that a devil is controlling my mind or something! I’m catholic I haven’t really been that religious but I’ve been so scared that I started praying to feel better and I feel like I need to pray to make whatever this is go away. I never believed in possession I’m more of a scientific based person however I’ve reached the point where my beliefs aren’t firm anymore I feel scared I don’t know what to believe it’s like I’m slowly believing my mind is being controlled I’m scared :( is something severely wrong with me? Is possession / devils real? Do I have a severe mental illness am I going crazy / developing psychosis or becoming delusional?? :(
These things might just be a series of coincidences but lately, if im reading about political/religious topics that are in my area of interest or directly affect me, i instantly start beliving the opposition is right and that the people on my side are all wrong or i doubt everything that my side believes and is fundamentally flawed and that we have all been mistaken. (even if its a million people on my side and even if there sizeable proof that supports us). This causes alof of discomfort and dread. This is kind of similar to the example above. If i was taught about certain things growing up now im all of a sudden questioning them and believing that again the opposition is right, it causes discomfort and dread. If i like a character, have always liked it or a show or whatever, my mind starts to look for flaws or inconsistencies in the show and if something my character did that was "morally wrong" i cant just let it slide, then i start losing my feelinfs towards it or my view is shifting and this disturbs me alot.
Hi!! This is gonna be sooo long because I really need to take this off my chest. I had a terrible time for the past 3 weeks. I had constant panic attacks, chest pains, stomach aches and feeling extremely guilty. This 3 weeks I've been reading and researching about ocd and I think that I have OCD. Now as I live with my parents, who I tried to talk with them about this possibility and scared them really bad with this theory, I can't go to a therapist or psychologist until next month where I can speak to a psychologist from a hospital where i need to go for other reasons. Why I think I have OCD? Well, everything started 2 years ago when all this panic with the pandemic started all around the world. I have a chronic illness so I started to feel VERY scared of this virus, thinking that if I got sick, I would die. I slowly started with washing my hands more often, then wiping my things that I took with me out of my house with alchohol(my phone, my books, etc.). At first it wasn't that bad, but when school started everything went downhill really bad. I couldnt touch things such as door handles, my chair and desk, my books, even my phone. I couldn't bring Anything inside my room if it wasn't decontaminated, even I and my clothes(so i needed to take a real quick shower and new clothes just to feel safe). My dad, who started to be Really mad at me, was doing things "intentionally" just to "show me nothing's gonna happen" which triggered me really bad and started to have intrusive thoughts that my room is now full of germs and if i don't wipe EVERYTHING im gonna die. I had terrible mental breakdowns when he was doing this, but he thought its good. Then I got used to these intrusive thoughts. I was just having them and I was doing what were they saying and was feeling ok. Then, it started to go worse. I have 2 cats and because my parents are somehow scared of cat fur, they wont let me keep them inside, so they stay outside or in the basement(when its winter) so they are always hunting mice or little frogs or even moles. So here it started another fear. Every time they brought mice, i had voices in my head telling me "what if that mouse is poisoned or sick. Now you cant touch your cats or you will die. But oh God what if they die too?". Now listen I LOVE MY CATS WITH MY ENTIRE LIFE THEY ARE EVERYTHING TO ME but these thoughts/voices in my head were making me fear MY OWN CATS THAT I LOVE SO MUCH. It was horrible i couldn't touch them for 2 days just "to make sure the germs dissapeared from them". Just the same, I started to get used to these thoughts and even if I was washing my hands 7 times in just 1 minute, i was ok and happy with my life and still loved my cats. Then I had a stupid fear of mange. I was crying so bad to my only friend(who is a vet student) that im so scared to take mange from others animals when I was going to the vet with my cats. The same happened when in my town people put rat poison and somehow i had false memories with me touching it without knowing or something. I thought i was going INSANE!! My hands were bleeding so bad and everyone was asking why they were so red and rough. I was in constant pain but I was ignoring it because my fear of germs was bigger than the pain. I had nights when I woke up randomly from my sleep Feeling that I touched my mum's contaminated phone, my contaminated water bottle, or even I thought I was a sleepwalk and went in my sleep unconscious to touch the "dirty" door handles. For a month or something like this I had this fear when I was sleeping and couldn't sleep again until i went to wash my hands at least 3 times. Then it dissapeared and I was having a really happy life even if I had intrusive thoughts about germs, corona virus, self doubt and my hands were still in so much pain. I was having the time of my life, always happy to draw, to listen to music and to watch the sun, clouds, pretty much everything was making me feel good. I was thankful of my life. Then I had a terrible relapse. In April, when I was praying(Im a religious person, not a Christian, because Im not American) I had a TERRIBLE sexual thought about God. I thought I would die in that night. I had a bad panic attack I was trembling in my bed I was feeling so sick and I was constantly thinking "why did i thing that. Why?? Im a disgusting person I will die in hell now" and I was saying sorry to god until I feel asleep. This scared the sh*t out of me because of being punished and because I didnt know what was that because I absolutely hate s*x it makes me feel sooo uncomfy. The guilt and fear eventually went away with the time and I was more concerned with school and good grades. I was still praying and thanking God for everything everyday. I was happy again, until 3 weeks ago, when I was praying before bed and I had another sexual thought about God(like what if I slept with God(man i feel so embarrassed saying this)) and then another panic attack trembling in my bed and saying sorry a thousand times in my head. I felt guilty a few days until i had another intrusive thought "what if you worship satan"(i was listening to a new song of my favourite band and realized that its about a cult :() and it scared me so bad I started to avoid social media as I was remembering constantly this thought. It lasted again a few days until I had another sexually intrusive thought about God which it gave me Every Day for a week chest pains, fear, guilt stomach aches and making me feel so tired and exhausted i couldnt do anything. I was praying so many times per day for forgiveness, but I still felt like I was going to hell. I started to read a lot of articles about ocd and scrupulosity and it made me feel ok just for a few minutes then the thoughts were coming back. Now I know I shouldn't fight them, as I learned myself that they are getting worse. I tried to watch videos on youtube about erp but just imagining that I need to accept those thoughts is scaring me so bad because I don't want that. Im absolutely against them, they scare me so much that they make me cry. I couldn't sleep at night that what if im gonna dream about this thoughts. I feel so tired i want help I cant anymore. They are getting worse every day and I feel like Im going to hell no matter what. Im even scared that I'll die in my sleep for my sins and every night I go to bed with fear and every morning when I wake up I thank God so much that Im still alive. I want to get rid of intrusive thoughts SO BAD and repent all my life for these sins. I don't want God to leave me, I dont want God to be mad at me. I think Ocd makes me doubt myself I feel like I dont know myself anymore. Its terrifying. Now Im scared to sleep again because I had a terrible thought today and Im so so scared that I will have bad dreams about this and I had a mental breakdown where i cried so bad telling God to not let me alone and to protect me. Do you think that my possible ocd turned into scrupulosity/pure ocd? Can please someone tell me what to do. Will God forgive me? Thank you for your time you took to read this. I wish you best!! <3
I convince myself in my relationship, I have to confess intrusive thoughts or else I’m “hiding” something. But at the same time, I don’t wanna just tell my partner about my harm OCD. He would think I’m nuts and not understand bc he doesn’t struggle much with anxiety. It makes me feel not good enough for him. Harm OCD is just too hard sometimes to tell other people. It makes you feel all alone. What I’m asking is this, if I don’t want to tell my bf everything, do I have to? I know confessing constantly can become a compulsion so I didn’t know if someone had any insight on that. I had an ex partner who had some ocd and intrusive thoughts so it was easier to talk to him about it but the guy I’m seeing now is a great person but doesn’t have it. I would just absolutely love some advice 🥹
The thoughts aren’t necessarily the problem, it’s our reaction to them.
Hi, I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for 2 years. 2 weeks ago, I suddenly started questioning everything about my relationship. It started with ‘do i actually like him?’ to ‘did i fool him and myself for 2 years?’ and ‘did i just stop loving him’. I started crying uncontrollably, because I didn’t want to have these thoughts. I even went to see my GP and they gave me some pills to calm down. 2 weeks further and nothing has improved, the thoughts have gotten worse and I’m still constantly thinking about whether I am in the right relationship. It started with checking if I liked being with him and checking if I liked every move he made, I couldn’t stop checking and I couldn’t act like everything was ok when I was around him, I can’t even be happy around him anymore because of these thoughts. I started noticing his imperfections, which never bothered me at all. All I can think about are the moments when we argued and those imperfections. This never bothered me before and I constantly feel guilty about it and I’m thinking he deserves better. Before I had these thoughts, so the past 2 years, I always thought he was the one that was going to leave me, now it has changed to ‘what if I’m the one leaving him?’. I used to check if he liked being with me and when something felt off I used to tell him I love him, hoping he would say it back, to make sure he still does. Are those signs of ROCD? All I want now is to go back in time, to when I was happy to be around him. I don’t want to doubt, I know we can have a great time together, why can’t I think about that now? Is it even possible I have ROCD? Am I using ROCD as an excuse to have these thoughts? I haven’t been diagnosed and getting help for OCD in my country is really hard. How do I get rid of the thoughts?
I have a tendency to live in my head a lot which can make it hard for me to be fully present with big groups of people. As a result I’ve always gotten comments like “he never knows what’s going on does he.” I’m also just easily distracted, forgetful, and can appear airheaded in general. My closest friends know that I’m smart but also I know that most acquaintances have a tendency to think I’m dumb or kinda slow. Sometimes it just gets me down. Anyone else?
Hey everyone, I just found out I'm pregnant and I'm very worried as I have harm ocd and pocd! I'm also worried because I get insomnia really bad and my mum had post natal psychosis. Has anyone here had post natal psychosis but got through it at home without help? I'm wondering what my options are I wouldn't cope in a clinic if I got that. I had a nightmare last night that I was sectioned. Also has anybody else got such bad insomnia yet you've had a kid? Has anyone had pocd yet getting through that with a kid? This pregnancy was planned and my partner is so happy, but I'm literally so terrified
I can’t tell if I’m in denial, every time I have the thought that I’m transgender I see an angel number without fail they’re always there I’m so confused I’ve never liked stuff that guys did and I’ve never felt gender envy but I’m so hyper aware of that kind of stuff now and I don’t get anxious when I have those thoughts instead now I get so anxious about being a woman and it’s so discouraging because I love being a woman and have always idolized feminine things like beauty and makeup and have always shown that im interested in more feminine hobbies but now I just feel like a stranger to myself and it’s so confusing I don’t know how im supposed to feel and it gets so overwhelming that I get super scary feelings of not wanting to be here anymore I just want to feel like my old self again I can’t tell if this is my ocd or if im in some kind of denial, I keep having thoughts that I need to like come out to my parents or something but I don’t want to because I don’t want to identify as transgender I don’t want to be with women and I don’t want to be a trans man in a relationship with a man but I feel like I can’t see myself as a woman anymore and I hate it like if I try to imagine myself in a scenario I can’t see myself as desired I guess by men and that they don’t see me as a woman if that makes any sense? I hate this so much I love being a woman and I don’t want that to stop or end or change
My mind is admitting to the point where I really think I’m gay and that only sticks there like it’s the truth , saying that I’m straight doesn’t feel right anymore , my head hurts like hell and I need help , I’m just on my own , my mind doesn’t believe on OCD anymore , I don’t have the symptoms everyone has , it’s like I’m convinced
I made a post earlier regarding harm ocd. I think I posted at a bad time bc no one answered. I don’t want reassurance about if I would ever do such an act, but I’m curious to know if the gun violence stuff and shootings are triggering anyone else’s harm ocd? For me, it’s my greatest fear to ever lose control and harm others so when I see it on the news, I freak out. School shootings have sent me over the edge lately. It’s like I become obsessed with wanting to know for certain I could never lose control over my body. It makes no sense because I’ve never even done a violent act. I guess OCD attacks your greatest fears and makes them sticky in your brain? It just scares me that anyone is capable of horrible things. Honestly all crime stories scare me and trigger me. Should I make myself watch them or do you stay away from the news at this point. I just feel like it’s all too much 🥹😭
anyone have any tips for forgiving yourself for your intrusive thoughts? i feel like i’m forever going to feel bad for and punish myself for mine. also if anyone is religious (i’m christian), do u ever fear god won’t forgive you for your intrusive thoughts?
I give up on trying to find a therapist. Just found out my regular therapist was worried I was a danger to myself and others from my intrusive thought urges. She doesn’t specialize in OCD. This is my second therapist after many many searches online and I just feel like giving up at this point. My insurance doesn’t take the NOCD. Ugh.
Hello my friends, I'm just wondering if anyone has theory how their ocd started? It doesn't matter to me what OCD you have. For me it seems like it was trama and anxiety and too much of it sending me in a downward spiral to not feel anything is safe and clean around me. My anxiety is paralyzing and I am exhausted from ruminating and cleaning. Please share your story. I feel so alone.
I’m at work when on a bathroom break. I was trying just to be in an out of course me I am start observing and I see the drain for the bathroom is located in my stall. So as I see the drain I noticed like drops are spots that are a dark red orange. I start to be so triggered that I am like is that rust, paint, or worse blood. Did I step on it? I’m freaking out at this point and even worse I’m wearing sandals. So I come to my coworker and she gives me Clorox wipes and I’m wiping the bottom of my sandals by stepping on the wipes I refuse to touch them with my hands. Now I’m freaking out because everywhere I’ve stepped until I had time to wipe my sandals and get to my desk I can’t clean. I am not able to clean the office carpet or the tile. And everyone is just walking in the area that I had walked in before I sanitized my sandals. I’m freaking out. I’m at work still and I don’t want people to think I’m crazy but I can’t get it out of my head that what if it was blood.
