how do you guys get over hocd
Does anyone have tips for ROCD exposures on fear of being cheated on? I’m having trouble working with the app to setup exposures. My therapist has me limiting contact with my bf as exposures. I’ve also been forced to watch tv shows or movies on cheating (which wasn’t too distressing).. I’m at the point where it’s costing me my relationship and I don’t want this to happen at all. I’ve had way too many relationships that I’ve sacrificed unwittingly to my ocd. I really need help with this or I’m afraid he will break up with me because he’s so fed up with the daily chaos.
Need tips on battling intrusive thoughts.
Ok I’m having a serious moment here with my ROCD - can’t get a hold of my bf...lately he’s been too busy with work to talk to me or text me much and it’s really making me panic!!
Currently not feeling the OCD as strongly, but having bad feelings when thinking back on moments where it flared up. i'm really scared i'll get like that again and i don't want to
Does anyone else get upset with incorrect grammar? It really upsets me and I get an ever tightening thought spiral which is what I call obsessions. Speaking of which have any of you read Turtles All The Way Down by John Green? I love how true it is and how that all can happen. But back to my thought spirals what are some of your worst if you don’t mind me asking other wise you can just keep scrolling.
It’s funny and frustrating how I am not able to talk to my therapist when I go for my sessions (only few words). Can this somehow be a symptom of OCD?
Does anyone else with ROCD feel like the love may never come back? That you’ve been in this cycle for so long that your love just won’t ever be the same or the relationship is forever changed? I often look at my boyfriend and panic I’m in the wrong relationship because I can’t imagine us together in 50 years. We are in a VERY LDR (I’m talking opposite sides of the world) we were physically together for over a year before he went back, and I never questioned my love for him. Now I question it all the time and wonder if I’ll ever be capable of love, towards him or anyone else. I don’t even know who I am myself anymore and it’s a very vicious ocd cycle. Just when I feel better I’m not. What can I do? My anxiety is getting worse and I’m scared my brain will push me to leave when I don’t want to because he’s always been the person I’ve wanted.
I just tried to do an exposure. I lasted my goal of five minutes but the whole time I was just obsessing. At the end of the five minutes I began performing my compulsions. Does it still count as an exposure if you succumbed to the compulsion like this? d a i s y
Has anyone ever been hospitalized because of their OCD?
I suffer from intrusive thoughts, I think I may have HARM OCD. My therapist diagnosed me with anxiety and depression but not OCD because I never told her about my thoughts. I’m afraid of being around vulnerable people, and I’m afraid for going insane. The thought of it makes me want to throw up, this all started about a week ago, and I haven’t been able to eat since then. I don’t even want to go out because I’m in constant fear. I tell myself “what if I snap?” or “what if I’m a sociopath?” I have told my parents about it and even my significant other and they tell me “you wouldn’t even hurt a fly” I kind of feel relieved after that but not for long. I’ve been trying to get closer to god, I’ve been praying, meditating, I even took magnesium because I want to stop having these thoughts. I did go to therapy right away but I wasn’t completely honest to her due to fear. I’ve been feeling numb. I love my family.. so why am I afraid I might hurt them?
Anyone find that ERP is not helping with the ocd? I’ve been going up me hierarchy slowly but I’m not getting any real relief from obsessions or anxiety - at times it seems to just get worse. My therapist says until I have gone thru my entire hierarchy I won’t feel much change in my symptoms. Anyone else going through this? I feel kind of dejected and hopeless about it like this is never getting better. My therapist even said I should maybe stop ERP because it’s not working (she might have been baiting me, tho - I don’t know)...
Hey! Can y’all share the moment you realised you had ocd like you know the “oh shi- I have ocd” moment.
Hey y’all! Second post on this community and I can’t sleep, as usual. When you look back, do any of you guys see signs of ocd in your younger self that you wish you caught up on? For me, I hoarded a lot as early as 3 and made my family make my lunch and dinner I’m very specific ways or else they would have to start over. I’m a junior in high school now and a lot of my obsessions/compulsions are different, but looking back I definitely struggled with it my whole life.
Religious OCD is terrifying because I can't logic out of it. I can try saying "that's not how God works," but then my brain will be like, how do you *know*. Like does anyone else have religious OCD and feel the need to pray all the time? If so how do you avoid that urge? How do you find a healthy relationship with religion when even the smallest mention of it triggers you?
I’ve never been formally diagnosed but my counselor was adamant in telling me that I have OCD. Are there any of you who are in similar shoes as me? It seems like the fact that I haven’t been formally diagnosed makes me more prone to obsessions over whether or not I actually suffer with OCD.
Need to vent... I was at a family event earlier (husband’s family) and my bitch of a sister in law asked me for a Tylenol. I didnt think about it and I told her just grab it out of my purse pocket, the same place I keep my Prozac. Instead of pulling out the Tylenol she pulled out my Prozac and asked me- IN FRONT IF EVERYONE-why I took prozac. She jokingly said “ohhhh these are your crazy pills” i said no I have OCD. She looked at my husband and said “lucky you, most men would love a wife who obsessively cleans and keeps things organized” I was humiliated because I didnt want to sit there and explain the severity of my mental illness to all my in laws, but my sister in law made it look like I take pills because I like to clean too much. She just brushed it off like it was a quirk I was taking medicine for... my husband just stood there not knowing what to say because he knows the depth of my struggles but knew I didnt want him to say anything...
I’m working on scheduling an appointment with a psychiatrist for meds and I’m nervous about going on meds and the side effects of them. Any advice or are there people who have had positive experiences with their meds?
A suggestion. I saw a post of @OCDtreated on Twitter and I’d like to share with all of you who want to recover. “I am not a fan of OCD forums. Full of reassurance seeking.” I kinda agree with him on this. When people are troubled by OCD, they are more vulnerable to negative stuff and more skeptical with positive information. Although an OCD online group/forum can be helpful in some way (knowing that you are not alone, reducing the stigma, finding understanding), it can also be not that helpful. We talk here without any therapists’ guidance, and it’s so easy we post “unhealthy” information or questions to seek reassurance. One way to get better is to “getting comfortable with being uncomfortable”. This requires you to get more involved with your life, less from OCD. Constantly checking on ocd forums is not getting on with your life. However, I am not saying that you should not visit OCD groups any more.
Okay so this may just be me. I sometimes mistake girls for guys and my instinct was never “she’s hot” it was always “he’s hot” because I thought they were male and when I found out they were female I got extremely uncomfortable, I didn’t have any desire to do anything I just thought they were hot guys. Now with this HOCD I’ll think “oohh he’s hot” and freak out and I’d have to examine and MAKE SURE they’re male because I’m PETRIFIED they’re female. But now it’s like when I find out they’re male I feel relief but I’m still extremely anxious about it. I still get the annoying groinal responses when I look at some women and it’s very annoying. I just want to be my normal straight self again.
