working to conquer OCD
Maybe yes maybe no isn’t working for me anymore. A specific thought that bothered me before felt so real a month ago then I was able to get over it. Then it came back and it feels even MORE real than ever! It feels like I’m actually going to act on my thoughts but there’s a small part of me that’s like “you know you aren’t actually gonna do this” and I try to just say maybe? Or I try to just accept the thoughts and say “yea sure I’d do that” but it’s making my anxiety and my chest EXPLODE. A month ago it was easier for me to say “I never desired this” now for some reason it’s like as if I’ve always wanted this but I know I’ve never desired this it’s a weird feeling I can’t explain. It feels all so real and true and before this flare up I’ve never had the urge or desire or these thoughts EVER! It’s as if Ocd happened to make my fears come true or it was supposed to happen like this. I want my old self :( or at this rate i don’t even know who the old me was or if this is truly me. I see so many people post that this theme came true for them and that has been on my mind so much and it feels like it’s coming true :(( I wasn’t like this before but my head goes nooo you just realized it now :( but I don’t want any of this. Everyday is getting harder and harder.
Hi! I'm new here, I just wanted to share that I'm currently obsessed with my body image, how I look, my weight etc.. I think about it 24/7, I think about how horrible and disgustong I look, but I don't know if this can be related with OCD and I would like to know if someone has experienced this Thank You :(
Do you guys ever experience guilt for not liking someone? My mind tends to obsess over the fact I can’t like a particular person, then my intrusive thoughts surround that person.
I really need someone’s opinion on this, I was reading through some of the rocd posts on this app and It of course triggered me but to start off I’ve been with my boyfriend for 2 and a half years, we are both in high school and before I met him I had a really unhealthy relationship with the idea of love and the obsession behind it. I’ve always wanted a life partner as long as I can remember and before meeting my boyfriend I would mess around and essentially ride the love high of the first few weeks with a guy, get bored, and then dump them. I started dating my current boyfriend right before the pandemic started and I was actually planning on breaking up with him then because that love high was “gone”. Then the pandemic hit and I was essentially forced to put that on hold and I actually got to know my boyfriend properly past all the infatuation and I don’t know how but I got so extremely lucky in the fact that he is one of the most kind, selfless, and wonderful people I have ever met, and I can confidently say he is not only a lovely boyfriend, but my best friend as well. I come from a bit of a damaged household and I’ll still get that urge to break up with him sometimes, and unfortunately my ocd is pretty awful sometimes and I worry that I’m too codependent on him or that we aren’t healthy and so on. Occasionally we’ll have fights (most of them are instigated by some sort of element of the ocd so I start freaking out and unfortunately spin it on him before I realize, getting better t recognizing it though) and my brain’ll go “you should just break up with him and save yourself the trouble” and of course I don’t want that but then we’ve in the past gotten really close to that happening cause I’ll say that to him and everytime he’d just say “come on, you know what’s happening right now” and I’d only stop myself because of the fact that I really really don’t want to break up with him but my brain will tell me to. Basically, in a nutshell, I’m freaking out right now thinking that I have an unhealthy dependency on him and that I HAVE to break up with him cause it’s not “right” or something like that. I just really really would like some help with this right now as I’m terrified that I actually should break up with him
Do any therapist or people who go to therapy have any tips to stop being scared of your mind. Lately when I’m alone I’ve found myself questioning if I was crazy, if I want to hurt people or if I will become severely anxious to the point where I want to hurt myself. I know these thoughts aren’t true but they feel so real I can’t ignore it. It’s really hard for me because these sudden thoughts cause my mood to change
I’m sooo scared I might be pregnant even tho i have done everything to avoid it. So it’s not really something to be scared of but I can’t let it go I keep thinking about it constant. It’s now 6 weeks ago and it pops up once in a while. Now I’m totally scared again I don’t want a baby I’m just sooo scared I can’t let it go.
My Name is Marc and I am a recovered Lifelong OCD sufferer. I say recovered, because using 'STOP' therapy that I learned from a behavioral shrink in LA, I have for all intents and purposes been totally free from my symptoms for 20 years now. I was a 'born that way" OCD sufferer and went through virtually every hellish part of this malady.... "GOD hates me, I am dirty" and about to be punished. Rituals...Washing, more washing, catastrophizing, and more than once almost died as a result of my compulsions. I also use the strategies I learned from TMS doctor John Sarno... he saw OCD as an equivalent in chronic pain and the same tools and education I went through to be free of chronic pain are also effective at keeping OCD at bay. I won't post my whole story here, but suffice it to say that having lived a very full life after having been robbed by OCD, I am always supportive and try to be helpful to anybody else who suffers from this because I cannot think of a worse affliction. I am glad there is finally a central resource. Part of recovery, was finding out I HAD something and wasn't just crazy...That is what I thought for the first 30 years or so of my life (I am 56) until I saw a story about OCD on TV You are not crazy and there IS a way out of this no matter how bleak it seems. Shout at me...always there for a fellow sufferer -marc
I don’t know what’s wrong with me but I keep searching my ex on social media and get so much pain from looking at the pics. I know I can physically refrain myself from doing this but I just do it. I’ve been through a lot in my life but this heartbreak is by far the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. I also think it’s so hard because we lived together for about 2 years and dated for 4 in total. I don’t wish this on my worst enemy. 😢
Hello beautiful people My theme is emotional Contamination ( I am afraid that I might have an accident and have an injury in my body ) My therapist asked me to say out loud and imagine that I had that accident and get injured, now I say that what if I manifest that as the law of attraction says 😭 My OCD got worse than past
Hey everyone, my name is Stephen Smith and I’m the Founder and CEO of NOCD. I also have OCD, which is why I founded the platform. Specifically, I have “intrusive thoughts OCD”- relationship-based, sexual, and religious thoughts that made me at one point question many fundamental elements of my character. Although google searching for answers to my thoughts was my most noticeable compulsion, my compulsions were mainly mental, where I would reassure myself, mentally review past events, pray, and even check my body for different sensations. Since I didn’t suffer with the “standard symptoms”, I ended up getting misdiagnosed 5 times which caused me to get really severe, drop out of school, and become housebound. While housebound, I started searching my thoughts online which led me to realize that I had OCD. Then, when searching for evidence-based OCD treatment, I stumbled upon exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy. Although ERP is extremely effective (about 80% of people with OCD see a significant reduction in symptoms after going through treatment), there was only one therapist in my area who specialized in it. She had a 7 month wait list and charged $250 per session- making the care pretty much inaccessible for me. I got lucky though since my mom, who was desperate at the time to see me get better, found money from a family friend to pay for my treatment. She also called the clinician and begged her to get me off the waitlist. If it wasn’t for her, I probably wouldn’t be here today. After doing ERP with the provider for 12 weeks, I ended up getting better- so much to the point where I was able to go back to school, finish up my football career (I was a college quarterback) and eventually complete my degree. Because I managed the OCD fears by accepting the uncertainty behind them (a core principle behind response prevention), the anxiety over time went away, and the thoughts decreased in frequency as well as in severity (since they didn’t really matter to me anymore). After that happened, I ended up returning back to normal pretty much- feeling as good as I did before my severe OCD onset. That’s when I started pondering the question, “if OCD is so treatable with a good ERP therapist, then why isn’t treatment more accessible to people going through the condition?” It’s a question I’m sure many of you are currently asking or have asked before. Now to the good news....There is no more need to ask that question. Now inside of NOCD, you can do live, face-to-face therapy sessions with a licensed therapist who specializes in treating OCD using exposure and response prevention (ERP). After signing up, all you need to do is open up your phone or laptop and start the session with the ERP therapist. It’s all video-conferencing. It’s the solution that I always wanted when I was going through treatment, so I hope you can find value in it if you are suffering- especially those who are stuck on the waitlist or who live hours from care. Anyways- if you have questions about doing ERP therapy with a NOCD telehealth provider or with another therapist feel free to ask them here. I will definitely give you the pros and cons. Much love!
I can't cope. I don't know what is going on in my head so I don't know how to do response prevention. My therapist won't reply to me. My biggest fear is not being able to control ocd. Someone help me please. I can't live with this
I read someone’s post on here that really triggered me and sent me into a spiral. It feels so real. It looks like the post has been deleted but I really need to stop coming on here. Just needing some positive vibes.
This all started out when i got a random thought telling me i didnt love my boyfriend anymore. It spiraled and the intrusive thoughts got worse. Im at a point where i almost broke up with my boyfriend because i feel no attraction anymore. Is this normal? Will it ever go away?:(
I'm so so so tired y'all... My homa teacher just told me that soon schools might announce that first semester exams are gonna be on June 2 or 3. My midterm test just finished this month... And it was hell. Lots of tears.. And I did absolutely terrible in math.. And... Now Again I gotta go through it all. I'm so tired.. I mean it.. I'm so tired.. very tired. Ocd, exhaustion.. procrastination... studies..... I'm just so tired and scared
So basically me and my boyfriend was having you know what, and we haven’t done anything in like a month, and I really wanted too enjoy the moment with him, but each time we do anything I always have intrusive thoughts? or like scenario’s if that makes any sense, and each time this thought would come in i’d try too tell myself ocd please stop, or no intrusive thoughts over and over, and i did that each time it would come threw, and then it felt like in the moment when we was doing something i was trying too simply just focus on him made me think i like the thought or something but then again idk if i said no intrusive thoughts or anything like that, or was just annoyed. or that i said in my head just focus on him, and then i try too figure it out in my head too make it seem like it didn’t happen the way i’m thinking but when i do that i feel like i’m doing compulsions too make myself feel better, and then if i just sit with it and accept it as uncertainty or as it is makes me obsess over it for days and days and then something else will happen so i’d start obsessing over something new, and then with this situation now it’s making me think i intentionally thought about the intrusive thought again too like it or something, i’m just at the point too where i don’t know what too do because i simply just want too be focused on him, and the medication i’m on i can hardly feel the anxiety so it’s like just worry, idk i feel like a horrible person, and then he asked me if i was okay after because i was acting so worried, and asked if i had a thought and i said i might tell you later because i don’t want him too think i can’t enjoy him like that anymore because of these thoughts, not looking for reassurance just simply someone too relate too, and this isn’t the only theme i have, it’s just the one that’s really bad right now, i have like 4 other themes as well, I just have severe ocd and i’m so tired of this nonstop cycle. it’s getting old, sorry for such a long post but i’m just so tired.
How come there is so much more compassion for people with physical health issues, than for people with mental health issues? It makes me want to scream and yell at them, that I don't fake my issues, that they are debilitating and horrible to bear, even without the constant lack of understanding, consideration and support... and more over pressure and accusations make them so much worse... But I can't yell at them, because that would prove to them how crazy I am. When I complain, I'm the issue... I'm so tired of it... No one would look annoyedly at a man in a wheelchair, roll their eyes and say - Don't make such a fuss, just get up and walk up the stairs! Each single person who treats people with mental health issues like that should walk in our shoes, until they understand.
I feel so alone and I feel so annoying and that I don’t deserve anything good at all. I don’t know how to stop feeling like this, I think last night really triggered me because I am just so sad right now and I feel like a fraud and that I don’t deserve help or good things.
