If I trust my feelings more than my faith, I’m opening myself up to trickery and illusion. Feelings can and often are out of synch with morals and therefore I will not give them my power. My faith is my intellect. My feelings are instinctive.
I'm not sure if what you mentioned is accurate. Faith, in terms of fact, is essentially a strong feeling or bias toward a subject, possibly supported by intellectual evidence. Intellectual evidence in turn has nothing to do with feelings. In contrast, a fact is something verifiable by our senses and part of reality. Many refer to faith as intuition, which further emphasizes that it is essentially a feeling. So, I believe you may be confusing terms, making your statement inaccurate for me.
@This Barbie Has OCD I made this statement, and I can relate to it. Are you implying that faith is the opposite of intellect? If so, why do faiths—whether Christian, Jewish, or Muslim—emphasize the biblical verse, "God is not a God of confusion but of peace" (1 Corinthians 14:33)? Faith is actually grounded in logic and intellect.
@This Barbie Has OCD I'm pushing back against your elitist perspective on people with OCD. They're not children and often have sharper intellectual judgment than both of us. Simply flag the post as a trigger. Furthermore, if you're trying to motivate, using incorrect terms can cause significant harm. Imagine someone believing that faith equals intellect—how would they cope with the guilt they feel? This isn't a debate; it's about seeking clarification, which you seem to overlook entirely.
I would love to have some insight in this in general I deal with thoughts but for me it is the feelings that make ocd this difficult The feeling of disgust for my partner, the feeling of wanting the content of the thoughts , the feeling that this is the real me , the feeling that i am lying to myself and my partner, the loss of attraction,... Because when i write it like that ,that that these are feelings, it seems very much that i am just in drnial and i am bi but i cant love men anymore, or that i am not attracted to my bf and so on
Believing in God is also a matter of faith. Believing that thoughts have power is also a kind of faith. But people say we should believe in God — then why shouldn’t I believe that thoughts have power too?
I’m Christian, and I suddenly had a loss of faith. I’m praying constantly and as anxious and scared that God hasn’t chosen me for this religion, even though I believe in it whole heartedly. My brain is telling me these things, and saying how I would be fit for Islam or something else, even though I am perfectly happy being a Christian. I keep getting intrusive thoughts and feelings about not believing in my religion, and whenever I confess how I do believe, my brain tells me I’m lying or I feel otherwise. It makes me feel guilty and abandoned and alone. I still read my Bible and pray CONSTANTLY. Please help (sorry if this is hard to understand I am ranting)
