Does anyone else find when a huge change happens in their life their ocd comes crawling in?
That’s with all mental illnesses; higher the stress, the more likely your mental illness/es will likely act up. That’s why you need to use coping mechanisms and stay present to get over the hurtle.
Oh yeah it’s extremely normal! Expected, even! In fact, it was during a period of intense stress that OCD came back after years with almost no symptoms. It was so bad that I ended up getting therapy and diagnosed for the first time. So a good outcome in the end!
Yes. Even with stressors. I could be living the best life, OCD couldn’t even worry me. The moment something goes wrong, my anxiety and ocd flares up like crazy and i’m back at what feels like square 1
Yep - I just moved for a job and mine has been unbearable recently. Working on trying to settle back in with it being this intense.
Probably would if it ever truly fully left in the first place.

Yea, absolutely. I heard this happens because you might feel like you don't have control in life, so EVERYTHING begins to feel out of control. That's what the OCD wants- control. And when you feel like you don't have any control in life because of a big change, your OCD wants you to find it in any amount you can 🥲 I wish i knew how to wrestle this issue, as i'm having kinda the same problem right now, but you're not alone ❤️🫂
Sometimes it is like that for me. Other times I notice that when I am really excited about something, like looking forward to a vacation or holiday, I tend to get really bad flare ups with my OCD
My health concern OCD has been getting A LOT worse in the last days. I'm always panicking about having some serious illness, and I have yet again come to the point where I can't understand if I feel actually unwell or if it's just my mind. I'm under a lot of stress these days, I have some big changes coming up, and I know this is my way of coping, but it's tiring
Does anyone have harm OCD related to recent events? Like events that just happened or happened not long ago? I feel like my OCD is trying to find something bad/immoral I could have done in nearly every situation that I am experiencing, for example “Did you just do that?”. And I constantly want to check, ask people for reassurance, try to find a logic answer by going it though in my head,… It’s many different themes but all related to doing sth bad/immoral (e.g., touching someone inappropriately, pushing someone in front of a vehicle, putting something in a drink/food). Does anyone have the same? Or the other thing that I experienced recently is that I did something (a rather unimportant action, not harming anyone) and I go over and over it and ask myself “why did you do that? What does that say about you? Are you actually a weird person?” It feels like I draw “false conclusions” from a real event… I don’t know if that’s OCD though or not. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same. Good luck to you all! We’re not alone in this! 😊
I’m wondering if this has happened to anyone else… I’m 28 years old. I was diagnosed with OCD when I was very young and it took a while, but I overcame it. I haven’t had any compulsions in 20 years. I’ve had some horrible things happen in the past, but nothing brought back my OCD. The only thing I struggle with is overthinking and making decisions. Im about to take a sabbatical from my work for a year to travel because the last year of my life has been by far the happiest and most confident iv ever been. I went to see a therapist a couple weeks ago who was an OCD specialist, I just wanted some tips and tricks for decision-making while I’m on my trip. She warned me that my OCD might get worse before it gets better, but I thought that she just meant with decision-making and overthinking. They have this program set out that I didn’t really wanna do but she told me it works really well so I decided to try it. It’s two sessions a week and the first two sessions were sort of just talking about my old OCD and doing questionnaires. I really related to some of the questionnaire questions, and the therapist was actively telling me that I definitely had OCD the whole time which made me feel bad. After our second session, my OCD came back full swing like when I was a child. I cant stop thinking about doing compulsions every waking second. It’s been two weeks. I’ve been to her several times and nothing is helping, I’m resisting the urge to do compulsions as much as I can and I feel like I’m fighting for my life. Nothing is helping and I’m burning out. I wake up and cry everyday because of how uncomfortable and out of control I feel. I never thought this would happen and im so mad at myself for ruining my trip. I feel like I’ve ruined my life tbh and even if I do get better, I’m always gonna be bothered by the constant fear that even at the highest and most happy points in my life it could just come back at any second with no warning signs.. I thought I knew how to deal with it and had the tools, but nothing is working this time and its ruining my life. Today I asked about cancelling my trip altogether, and I might be going on medical leave. Has this happened to anybody and do you have any tips for me?
