hi! i was wondering if anyone here began treatment using sertraline and then got off of it later? im just curious about other people's experiences using if for their ocd and if they eventually got off of it or are just taking it indefinitely. Thanks!!

Do you ever see yourself getting off of it, or is sertraline something you expect to take for life?

hi! i was on zoloft for like 3 weeks & then got off bc i forgot my medicine back home (i moved). i’m back on it now & can see it working. helped depression & anxiety for sure. it’s different but i’m not freaking out and not eating like i was during my first spiral
same here, it helped my constant anxiety and depression so much! the only thing is that I started at 50mg and the effect started wearing off so i had my dose adjusted to 100mg and i feel like it working better for me (as well as being in erp for 3 months now lol)
I’ve been taking 25 mg Zoloft for about 2 months now and it’s helped tremendously with my panic attacks! I used to have at least one panic attack a day/would sit in my room feeling like I was going crazy…compared to now only have had like 2 panic attacks in total! The only side effects I will say I really don’t like is the vivid dreams. I wake up terrified sometimes, and then it makes me confused and question where I am, or if I’m alive 😭…but i would say more pros than cons!
I've seen other people online talk about the vivid dreams lol. In fact i see people talk about a lot of crazy side effects that thankfully i have not noticed in myself 😭

I got off mine a year ago. I felt like it helped with my intrusive thoughts a lot but it made me kinda angry. Like I got annoyed faster and said things when I usually wouldn’t have. I got off it, i think slowly, it took about a month and a half. I don’t feel like it got rid of anything but I feel like I handle them better. But I also think that’s because of therapy more than anything.
yeah i started sertraline bc i hoped it would help me get through erp better and I feel like it has! was getting off of it difficult for you? I've seen people say the side effects are rough
@cherryblossoms It wasn’t the hardest but I felt on edge a lot and got nauseas frequently. But I am use to that because I take iron as well. But I would say that coming off it was easier for me than others.
I started off on 25 mg and went all the way up to 150 mg but had to come back down because of sexual side effects. I don’t think that affects everybody. So now I’m back down at 25, but I also take Buspirone, which is technically for GAD which I also have. To the last point, it’s hard to tell how much of getting better is due to medication and how much is due to therapy, but I’ve heard the medication turns down the volume and helps you do the ERP. Sometimes I wish I could do a higher dose of the Zoloft, which they say is better for OCD, but I just couldn’t tolerate it. But everybody is different in the way they react to it.
yeah im definitely feeling the sexual side effects and i don't like it but I'd rather feel mentally stable lollll im hoping it improves. i also took buspirone for a while but i wasn't a fan and decided to stop. i think erp and sertraline have done wonders for my constant anxiety, better than buspirone.
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
