Luvox has been great for me, I’m on 150mg. It seems like a lot but they actually need to do higher doses for ocd. I can tell a difference for sure! The first few weeks are tough but once you get through it’s worth it
@Anonymous was it one of those “worse before it gets better” kinda deal?
I'm on Zoloft and it has def helped me! I am also on Trazadone to help me sleep. Trazadone has been a life saver for me. At times my ocd got so bad that I wouldn't sleep for 3 days which makes it even worse. Sleep is so important for any mental illness!
Zoloft worked well for me and recently I was put on Vistaril to deal with severe anxiety as needed. The doctor said Vistaril is not habit forming so that’s good
I tried Zoloft and had a difficult time tolerating it, so I switched to Lexapro. Keep in mind that medication works differently for each person. My advice is to weigh the options based on potential side effects, and talk to your psychiatrist about starting on a lower dose and gradually increasing it. I am not a mental health professional, so of course follow your psychiatrist’s advice, but ask any and all questions you have so you feel informed. Advocate for yourself as needed. Best of luck! Medication can be a wonderful tool, it takes courage to use it to better your mental health.
@MichelleV thank you! it’s just been tough since i’ve been on a few different ssri’s and i can’t seem to find one that works best without having side effects
@violettag6 The trial and error portion is definitely hard.
Hi ! I am not a prescriber so I can't give specific recommendations on medication but i've worked with several members who have been successful on both medications. Determining what the best medication for you is can be tricky. I recommend asking the provider about the side affects and choosing the one that the side affects you are willing to tolerate ! Worst case scenario, you try one medication and it does not work so you try a different one !
Luvox was great for my ocd but I have other mental issues so had to switch. Im on lexapro now but the side effects suck for me🤦🏻♀️
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
Medication for OCD? Hello all, 19 male here, this seems like a cool community that isn’t nearly as triggering as reddit. I have pretty severe bouts of existential thinking or fear of going crazy ( psychosis ) after some pretty heavy mushroom trips a few years ago, I know logically I should be fine but I do know what it’s like to lose it and it’s scary. Currently I deal with relationship focused OCD, it’s all day from before I even open my eyes. I want things to work out with my girlfriend badly. Also I can come close to a panic attack sometimes which perpetuates everything. Anyway, I mention the fear of going crazy because the way my anxiety/derealization makes me feel is that I’m not mentally stable cause I feel out of it or unreal. I saw that a lot of anxiety and depression medication can cause psychosis and I feel like I could use some help in getting ahead of my OCD because the compulsions are had not to give into when I’m in such distress/not knowing. Plus overall I just feel like I have no idea how I feel about close to anything. Anyone relate about that ?
I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?
