I just got diagnosed with ocd and she suggested I think about taking lexapro for it. Has anybody tried that and does it help at all?

It helps some, not me personally, but each medicine works differently for every individual. Hopefully it helps!
Heard it works for some. My coworker took it and didnāt like it. She and I both have taken Zoloft and it helped her & has done wonders for my ocd. Everyone is different š¤·š»āāļø
Hello! Yes- it helped me a lot. When I had intrusive thoughts, my anxiety around them was pretty much gone to the point that I no longer felt the urge to do compilations . And unfortunately, youāll always have intrusive thoughts like everyone else on this planet, but with the right meds, the rumination and anxiety will lessen and maybe even go away. I started on 20mg when anxiety was really bad but eventually lowered to 10 mg. Best wishes! You got this ā¤ļø
Lexapro was the first thing I tried, 15mg. Personally, it made me really tired and helped more with general anxiety than OCD. Iām now on fluvoxamine which my psychiatrist claims is the āgold standardā for OCD treatment and helps with intrusive thoughts. Most people go on 50mg. I started on 25mg because of results from genetic testing that a lower dose might be better for my body but am going to start taking 50mg. Of course everyone is different and lexapro might be great for you, but Iād consider asking about fluvoxamine, best of luck!
It really depends on the person. You wonāt know if itāll help you unless you try it with your doctor predicting it. And you might need to adjust the dosage too.
Hi there! You've gotten some great feedback from others already, so I'll just share some resources that may be helpful. As these articles will explain, certain medications can be quite helpful when used in tandem with ERP. Lexapro so far is the only medication that has worked for me. Iāve been in remission at points with a combination or medication and therapy
Please remember that a diagnosis doesnāt give you the disorder. It gives you a path forward to a better life. You have a community now. Lean on us. Donāt be afraid to be picky with your therapist. It wonāt hurt their feelings. Sometimes a great therapist just isnāt the right therapist for you and NOCD has so many to choose from. Be selfish in therapy. It may not feel in line with how you live the rest of your life, but this is one of those times when it really is all about you. I was diagnosed at 17. The past 10 years have been an exploration. Lean on me and the rest of this community.
I am honestly desperate to try anything, I tried prozac and it works but it makes me gain weight which makes my body image issues even worse, so I need help. Has anyone tried it?
Hello. I am a mom of a 15 yo who has been diagnosed with severe OCD and also depression and anxiety disorders. Medication was recommended. Specifically clomipramine. As of now he refuses to take it. Says he 50 % of the way considering it. He was not able to complete most of his HW last week, spends much of the day feeling anxious, isolates in his room for hours. Says he wants to try to manage it - says heās doing better bc he was able to focus in his math class - says he doesnāt want med bc he is afraid it will mess w his mind (numb his feelings). Any advice for how to get him over this hump? Any good experience from med? Itās hard for me to watch him suffer knowing that med is an option and he could be feeling better. Also hard to watch him get zeros in classes when he is smart and capable. Thank you ahead of time. Also, his NOCD therapist is on vacation but had recommended med as well to help my son engage better in ERP
Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.
