Triggered by a brief morning conversation with bf
Hey everyone, I am currently struggling with a massive ROCD spiral and really need to put this out here to stop the mental checking and compulsive scenario-playing in my head. This morning, my boyfriend and we were having a casual, lighthearted conversation in the bedroom about me working from home without pants. We started joking around, and I brought up the topic of sexuality, mentioning my own past fluid attractions but noting that today I am hetero-oriented and completely focused on him sexually. I then asked him: "And how is it for you?" He answered immediately—without a single second of hesitation—and just said: "Exactly" ("Genau" / "Same"). In reality, his fast response meant he completely agreed with me. He was saying: "Yes, just like you, I am focused on you and our relationship." It was a normal, loving, and reassuring answer. But my ROCD instantly hijacked it. Because he answered so quickly, my brain went into hyper-vigilant mode. I started overanalyzing the word "Exactly." My mind is now whispering terrifying doubts: What if he just said it to quiet me down? What if he meant something else? I’ve spent the last few hours trapped in an intense mental loop, playing out worst-case scenarios in my head. I keep picturing a fictional confrontation where I ask him to clarify, and in my head, he gives a vague, terrifying answer like "I don't know, maybe." I am fighting a massive urge to confess or ask him for reassurance right now, even though I know it's just the OCD demanding a 100% guarantee that doesn't exist. I am trying hard to remind myself of the core ROCD facts: • Thoughts are not facts or hidden truths. • A quick, spontaneous answer actually shows he is at peace with himself and didn't need to overthink it. • I need to focus radically on his actual actions—he is loving, he seeks my closeness, and he is building a life with me and our cats. ANY TIPS?
