Advice on considering sobriety?
Almost every major real-event and false-memory OCD spiral I have had in my adult life involves alcohol. Like many neurodivergent people, I’ve found that alcohol quiets my OCD thinking. It’s so nice to have a brief reprieve from it for a few hours. I love being social and hanging out with my friends. But I worry that I can’t be trusted when I drink - I’m scared that the parts of myself I am trying to control will take over when my inhibitions are down. Most of the time, I am able to drink without it being a problem. But on the few instances where OCD takes hold, I can’t recover for days sometimes weeks after. The thought of getting completely sober makes me think that every real-event or false-memory OCD instance carries a lot of weight. Like I would be admitting that all of those fears are true. I try to moderate my drinking, and I have been doing pretty well, but it only takes one bad night to completely flatten me. Advice or thoughts are encouraged 🙏🏻
