So i have pure O ocd, with rocd. And recently on my 75mg of zoloft, the thoughts have started to spike so bad again. Like in the beginning. Does anyone know what dosage of zoloft has a therapeutic effect. Because my zoloft was working so good on 75 mg, to the point I completely forgot about my thoughts. Then i started talking to a guy i super like. And worried the thoughts would come back./ missed a dose/ so they did. Please all advice!!!
There is no correct dosage for any mental health medication because everyone’s brain is different. I have friends with OCD who are on 75 on Zoloft and they’re good they don’t need anything else, meanwhile I’m here on 200mg the maximum dose they can prescribe and I have additional medications as well to manage it and that’s how it’s always been no matter what SSRI I tried. It varies person to person. Medications also take time to build up in your system and will seem more effective as time goes on because your baseline has stabilized because the meds have built up. If you miss a does one day, don’t panic just take the dose when you remember, I have one of those days of the week things to help me remember if I’ve taken it. Give yourself the time to be on 75mg since you said you started it recently and if you still aren’t seeing the improvement you want at your next appointment with your psychiatrist let them know so they can help guide you on what the best next step is.
@#Lexiriri I think i got switched to 75mg in august? and its been a lot of help. Then wore off, my friend suggested adding on abilify with it

@ocdinglehopper Oh yeah if you started in August I would definitely talk to your doctor about increasing the dose, when you said recently I was thinking two weeks or so. It could just be that you need to go up in dosage because your body got used to the 75mg and that’s not a high enough dose for you to get the therapeutic benefits. I’ve been on several antipsychotics before including Abilify and they aren’t my favorite because the drowsiness really really affects me personally and I already have to get a ton of bloodwork already so I don’t like having to add even more, but I know a lot of people that say it’s really helped them and they swear by it. So I’d just make sure to discuss the pros and cons with your doctor before if you’re really interested in starting with an anti-psych.

@ocdinglehopper When I say getting used to it I just mean it’s built up as much of a baseline as it can at that dose. But there are multiple multiple medications you can add to your regimen to supplement your SSRI. For example I’m on 200mg of Zoloft, a small dose of clonidine (not sure the exact number rn I’d have to look at the bottle), and 15mg of buspar. Getting your regimen right takes some time but you’ll get there and then you’ll feel better. Keep in mind meds won’t get rid of your OCD, but it should greatly reduce your symptoms to improve quality of life and pair it with therapy and you should get to a point when your doing really well.
