I just saw a post on here that reminded me of something I did, or thought I did, nearly 12 years ago. I donāt know exactly when, but my OCD just latched onto it. I donāt even know if the memory is real. Iām freaking out. I was just a kid. Why am I feeling so guilty right now?
Let's step back and explore here for a minute. Look at what OCD can do to a person. You read something, it says to you that you MIGHT have done something similar to that at some time, and though you DO NOT KNOW if this is real, why not feel GUILTY about it. CLASSIC OCD logic here. I like to point this out to prove a point of mine. OCD is easy to recognize because of the nature of OCD which is to jump to the WORST CASE SCENARIO ever. Is there anything that anyone could not make some kind of link to? Years ago, before my wife was diagnosed with cancer, we were walking through the downtown of our village, and there was a crew knocking a building down. There was a lot of dust from the demolition. Now that I am remembering this, what is the level of guilt I should have, because what if our decision to go downtown together put us in the path of this dust from this building and it had cancer causing agents in it and the reason she died years later is because of me because I took her downtown for breakfast and some shopping. Should I call her family and apologize? Should I post on social media that I am careless and deserve to be punished? What shall I do to atone for the notion that something I did may have somehow influenced her and her health. Should I feel guilt? I do not, and the reason is, though this could be a possible scenario above, I do not have OCD. But, if I did have OCD, no doubt I would be full of guilt and shame and wanting to atone. No one will, unfortunately, ever give you the answers that OCD demands, so the best thing to do is learn to live with OCD, and not by the rules of OCD.

@Anony1314 Iām just scared that maybe it isnāt a false memory and what I did was wrong. I was just a kid and I didnāt hurt anyone but yet Iām really concerned. And yes I did.

@Anony1314 I donāt think youāre a bad mom at all. I think the guilt youāre feeling is proof enough that you love your daughter and you would never let anything happen to her. In the grand scheme of everything, we are still human. And humans have emotions that sometimes canāt be explained. And we have thoughts that canāt be explained. Iām not an expert on this, since obviously Iām dealing with it myself, but the OCD is definitely at large here. And I hope you can realize that you did nothing wrong.

@Anony1314 Very much so! OCD is such a clever disorder and it works in ways you would never think possible. I struggled for a while with something I had done a couple years ago, and I had the same thoughts. Am I a monster? Do I deserve to be alive? And then I saw a therapist who told me it was OCD. I didnāt believe it at first cause I was never familiar with it. I always thought it was the whole āknock three timesā and āclean a lotā. I never realized how detrimental it can get with your thoughts. Now that I know itās OCD, I feel like maybe there truly is a solution to it all.
Real event, legal ocd, and false memory ocd around events that happened years ago but never bothered me till a month ago and now my life is being destroyed because I feel sooooooooooo guilty
I did post about this the other day, but Iām just genuinely worried like this happened many years ago and I canāt really remember exactly what I said, but I have a feeling like I said something really mean and I think I lashed out on a person like a stranger cause I donāt know I was probably going through something and Iām afraid that like it was so bad it caused them to hurt themselves and now I keep thinking like what if the police are secretly looking for me because the harm caused, even though I have no evidence of any of this, but even this Happened like a deca ago, it still haunts me like I really hope that the person is OK and I constantly like keep reviewing like their conversation over and over again like in my mind like I genuinely feel like a bad person maybe even a criminal š
my real event is so bad today. has anyone got any support. iām in therapy, ive been on meds, but yet i canāt stop feeling guilty for what i did when i was 11-13. the fact that i cannot remember exactly what age or exactly what happened, how many times or anything, im 20 now, and it makes it worse im trying not to ruminate but im constantly trying to figure everything out. i get these intrusive thoughts that tell me if i was 13 then itās worse, or that i donāt deserve a good life. but i canāt remember and the guilt consumes me. i remember what i did. just nothing else about it and it honestly is eating me alive.
