I’m positive I have OCD I don’t think get too many compulsions but the obsessions are what mess with me. I’ve recently started medication for depression that is as a side effects supposed to treat ocd but I’m not noticing anything with the symptoms. Also who do I go to to try to get an actual diagnosis?
Hey! You need an appointment with a psychotherapist (that’s where I got mine) or with a psychiatrist. They will be able to assist you or lead you somewhere else. If you’re in the US, there are many more ressources, eg an international OCD foundation, as I have read. „I need help“ is usually a good indicator, I hope you can get sufficient help.
Since you’ve started medication, I am assuming you have a psychiatrist who prescribed it. Are you able to speak to them, or the mental health department of your health insurance, for guidance and a diagnosis? You can explain that you want to be screened for OCD, and explain what obsessions you have. Please also know that OCD doesn’t just present in physical compulsions. Mental compulsions (like rumination or obsessing on a topic) are part of OCD. Make sure your health professional answers your questions. It's important to get diagnosed by a licensed mental health professional, especially someone who specializes in OCD. What kinds of obsessions and compulsions do you struggle with?
@Billie Ray is the dog A lot of it is mental, like hoops I have to go through in my mind but then there’s also having to do certain things 3 times. There’s also a ton of different rules in my mind that I know don’t really make sense.
@jay_y1 I totally understand, most of my compulsions are mental too, and I’ve also noticed that I prefer things in 3’s

It seems like there’s so many different forms of OCD that i’m truly left wondering what i’m seeking help for, and if this is even going to work for me. How do you know when you’ve had “false memory OCD”, “relationship OCD”, or even “suicidal OCD” i feel like i’m just so mentally twisted that i’ll just take whatever kind of help there is , even if this isn’t really what’s wrong with me? How would I even get my own boyfriend to understand what i’m going through if I’m diagnosed with OCD?
hey everyone. i’m not sure if this app will help me or not, but i feel the need to try anything because i can’t keep living like this. i struggle with obsessing over everything in my life. it feels like everyday my brain picks a new thing in my life to obsess over. for the past couple days ive been obsessing over my interpersonal relationships. for example; “do i like the people im with” “do i like my friends as more than just friends” “do i actually love these people or am i lying to everyone”. it’s been really messing with me and making me question my support system. i can’t stop stressing. i’m even afraid to talk about it with my therapist because i have those thoughts about her too. i’m new to my OCD diagnosis (got diagnosed last month) i was hospitalized for a week because i couldn’t function. i also obsess over my sexuality and nothing i pick for me ever feels quite right. i recently started a relationship with someone who’s trans, so maybe that’s why? does anyone else go through this? my brain tries to convince me that i do this to myself and that im making it all up. but who would want to feel this way? uggghhh
I went to see a psychiatrist today. She was pretty nice, but even though I was listing ALL symptoms of OCD, all the obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors, she was uncertain about it, as if she did not understand what was going on. She didn't rule out the possibility of me having OCD, but she didn't confirm it. I understand that doctors usually won't diagnose patients in their first visit, but goddamn... I'm so scared right now. I keep doubting that I have OCD myself, I identify with all the symptoms but I doubt it all the time and feel the need to reassure myself that I have the disorder. If I don't have OCD, my life is fucking over. She gave me a diagnosis for Generalized Anxiety Disorder and prescribed me some medication. I received that diagnosis because I shared some of the trouble I'm going through at work. But if I fear that I don't really have OCD if an actual mental health professional can't recognize that as OCD. All the relentless researching, rumination, mental checking/testing, spending hours doing these things to achieve a sense of certainty and avoiding things out of fear of getting triggered.
