When/how did you realize you had OCD

So, recently I’ve started looking into OCD. My partner thinks I could have it, and I used to think it was always just a cleaning thing or being a little particular. I talked to my partner recently about these intense intrusive thoughts and I guess compulsions(?) that need to be done or else things would feel bad. That’s obviously simplified, I don’t really want to get into full detail since I’m still real uncomfortable with it? I don’t know, I’m worried that I don’t actually have OCD and I’m just using that name with something that’s not that? When/how did some of you realize you have OCD?

For me it wasn't until things got really bad and unmanagable that I realized it was OCD. It's best to catch it early. So if you suspect you have it, try and get a diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible before it gets really bad.

I had intense intrusive thoughts- they were consistent and when I woke up they’d be there and when I fell asleep they’d also be there. I finally looked up “I think I’m ___ but I don’t wanna” and then ocd popped up. I legit cried tears of joy, then sadness- realizing I spent so long truly wanting to end my life. The internet saved my life as much as it harms me- so there’s that lol.

Since it’s called the “Doubting Disorder”, it took me an official diagnosis from a psychiatrist for me to believe it & look into it. So glad I did!

It impacted me literally every day, and anything I did. I was in denial for awhile, but my relationship started to pay the price for it. I have a very kind partner who suggested I may have a deeper issue. The more I dug into it the more things made sense. I’m still REALLY new here- I also question if I have ocd because I don’t have an official diagnosis but- that’s due to my own personal issues and fear of getting a label for my habits. The more I learn the more the dots connect.

I actually just discovered I have ocd because I suspect my boyfriend who recently broke up with me has relationship ocd. I have been obsessively researching OCD / ruminating on figuring out the breakup. That made me think about how OCD applies to other areas of my life. Kinda ironic.

When did you realize you have OCD?

Last year during April I started to experience groinal responses when I looked at kids. I was terrified of what it could mean and decided to attempt two weeks later. The very next day I had those responses I decided to attempt. I didn’t really have the courage to do so at that time but I started experiencing images ...

How do I know I have OCD?

Hey, so I've never actually been diagnosed with OCD. I did a little bit of research, I always thought OCD was organizing things. But I'm not normal, I have this thing where I feel something isn't right. I obsess over it or if I brush my hand over something correctly then it's fixed. Or I have to do this thing on stairs, I'll ...
