Why should God forgive me?

I know that Jesus died and paid the price for my sins and that they are pardoned. But do I really? Some part of me finds it hard to believe, as badly as I want to. I struggle with drug addiction, so each day as I use I think to myself how could God possibly forgive me when I’m sinning so willingly? How could he grant me access to heaven when I do what I do? I think of it like an apology (on my part) means nothing without changed behavior. So why should he forgive me if I won’t change? Can anyone explain that?

Hi! I totally agree with the previous comment Just thought I'd share some comforting verses (if that is okay!) The first part of Psalm 86:5 says "For you, O God, are good and *ready* to forgive". I love that it uses the word ready because it's a reminder that He EXPECTS us to make mistakes and is fully prepared to forgive. And when He does, He does not call it to mind like oh u did this thing this many number of times. And 2 Peter 3:9 "....he is patient with you because he does not desire anyone to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance". Be patient and loving with yourself. (I apologise if u dislike any of this! I'll delete my comment if it brings discomfort!!) God forgives you because He *wants* to and loves and cares deeply for *you* and that is reason enough

@HayleyBrooke Hi. So if you read Romans 7 (the second half) you will see even Paul struggled with sin - and says that what I do not want to do, that I do. The Christian life is one where we are fighting our sinful desires. The fact that you are fighting, acknowledging that you should stop, knowing it took the blood of Christ to forgive us - are all signs you are a Christian. Everyone k owes John 3:16….but John 3:19 is one of my favorite verses: And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. At first this seems condemning and discouraging. But I love it because it shows what we are NOT. As Christians we don’t love the darkness. And when we commit sins we hate the sins….so your post is clearly a sign that you have faith. I recently heard a pastor say that intent is so important. He gives the analogy of elbowing someone in the ribs playing basketball. That guy might say sorry but then do it again and again bc he is struggling with a bad temper. But if the same guy kept doing it and thinking “I can’t wait to elbow that guy again, I hope one of his ribs breaks” etc - then he isn’t truly trying to live correctly. Your sincerity is what matters.

He knows your struggle. He knows the resources you have (whether you have access to doctors, therapy… or not. Whether you have willingness or not). And most importantly: He knows the purpose why you’re taking those drugs. He knows the pain or disappointment or self-sabotage or self-hatred or heartbreak from whatever things that burden you… I don’t even know them, but he sees your precious heart.❤️💎 And because He knows that you are a flawed, fragile human being, he won’t give up on you. You can talk to him about it. He wants to listen and he will listen. Have a good night🙏❤️

religion

i’ve recently been getting a lot of religious videos on youtube and i watched some and i feel so scared. i can’t mess up or else im going to hell. i can’t say “omg” or else i feel so much guilt and i start freaking out. i also get intrusive thoughts that question christianity and that are very explicit/sexual images. i also feel so guilty because i don’t have true faith. i try to be religious to save my own skin, not out of being grateful for jesus dying for me. i feel nothing. i just don’t feel thankful and i don’t know why. i know i should but i just can’t. and i don’t wanna go to hell because i can’t feel thankful for anything and i just keep on sinning. i keep having to repeat “gosh dang” under my breath to get the right feeling and so i don’t use the lord’s name in vain. please help me. i want to be religious and grateful but i just can’t be truly faithful :(

Unforgivable sin

I’m currently in a very dark place I need some help. Are there Christians on this app who have got over the fear over the unforgivable sin? It makes me want to die.
