Scare of scabies

Hi all I was curious how you all think about this situation. I have severe ocd and mainly on cancer, lyme and since recently scabies. Of course something happened and now I don't know how to handle it. My girlfriend went on a trip and possibly slept under a comforter without the lose cover you can wash. So now I am worried that someone who was in the hotelroom before him and slept under that comforter without a cover and had scabies my boyfriend now is infected with scabies. We didn't meet up yet but next week we probably will. And I am terrified that I get scabies also. And it will take months of itching and trying to beat it. On top of it I am scared my son will catch it from me. I can't ask him about it because he wouldn't understand and if he did sleep under the contaminated comforter than damage is already done. How do I cover with this, because there is a change but maybe it's a small one. I just don't want to get it but I also really don't want to lose my boyfriend or not meet up Thanks a lot!!

You may or may not get scabies. Thinking about it won't make any difference.

First of all: I get you. You can't both have garanties in life and live full. You have to live with risks. Me too - and often I hate it. But we have no choice. You are living in your imagination at the moment, "what if...?" You don't know. When we don't know we have to accept the feelings and do nothing more. I have had scabies - it easn't fun - but it is treatable and it doesn't take months of itching. Try to sit with the discomfort of not knowing. Turn your attention to something else. Don't ruminate, don't ask your girlfriend/boyfriend(?), just let it be. Go on with your day. If you wake up someday and notice some itching and clear signs of scabies - then you act. Until then: do nothing. The anxiety will fade away with time if you let it.

Thanks a lot!! I made some typos, I'm tired of figuring this out, but these posts really help!! And also that it's not all drama, because you read horror stories on the internet. Thanks so very much, I will go on and try to live with the uncertainty!!

😊👍And...OCD will not like if you just ignore the thoughts, maybe it will scream at you soon - be prepared! Let the discomfort wash over you - do nothing! Return to the present moment again and again.

Yes you're right, I am going to try!! Another quick question. Is it fair to be "mad" at my boyfriend, because he possibly slept without a cover (couldn't see it well on the pictures)? Because I think literally nobody is thinking about scabies except for us ocd sufferers. But I'm struggling with the fact that he should have been more cautious, but that's really not fair right

Most people don't worry much about scabies because it's a completely treatable disease. If you get it, you deal with it. My grandmother loved dogs (big ones!) and she let them sleep in the bed with her and my grandfather. At one point, my grandfather got scabies and my grandmother realized that he had picked it up from the dog. When she explained this to him, he said "Are you telling me I've got mange!?!?" It's a funny story because he and the dog got treated and they were fine.

I cant sleep

Im so scared to fall asleep I genuinely do not want to because the fact that there are confirmed cases of people murdering others in their SLEEP is enough proof that my fears are legitimate. What if i harm myself or my family. what if the next time my boyfriend sleeps over I hurt him. what if I am eating cough drops in my sleep and that's why they are in my bed when I fell asleep with them on my end table, and I choke on one and die. These fears are genuine like yeah ocd is probably amplified it but the proof that this happens is hard to ignore. if I could lock myself in a empty room every night with no way of hurting anyone I absolutely would at least I'd know me and everyone else is safe. how do I even begin to combat this fear again and not let this fear bother me anymore.

Delusional thoughts - scared. Please read.

Hi everyone. I’m going through it at the moment. Any advice would be appreciated. I posted this before, but I really need to vent about this again. Feeling really anxious. I would just like to hear more opinions and advice please. So my main theme of OCD is harm related, especially towards my mom. I live with my mom and I love her dearly, and she loves me as well. We’re best friends and have been close my whole life. I was diagnosed with ocd and generalized anxiety disorder at 15 years old, and I’m 32 now. Got back into therapy this year due to flare up of my ocd. Back in July I had the thought “what if my mom wants to hurt me?” Which led to thoughts that she is going to hurt me in my sleep or plotting against me. Also just other crazy thoughts like what if she’s secretly a killer or something. My mom is one of the kindest people I know, gentle and polite to everyone she meets so to have these kinds of thoughts just seems too bizarre for ocd. They seem almost delusions. There were also urged to like barricade my door at night so she couldn’t get in, which I never did of course but the thought to even do that and feeling like I wanted to freaked me out. I even had the thought like “maybe I should report her to the police.” It just sounds crazy deep down, but those thoughts and fears feel so real at times. It just seems to lead to more paranoid type thoughts and it freaks me out. Fast forward and the thoughts went away, but the past two weeks or so they came back and I have been thinking them on and off. They give me anxiety, which then makes me think I believe them. Like if I’m scared of the thoughts, that means I believe them. I wonder a lot if I really believe them or not. I know I truly don’t deep down, I never once thought like this before, but the feelings and doubt make it feel real. I have told all of this to my mom and she understands me, but I feel guilt and shame as well to have these thoughts. I want to get back into seeing a psychiatrist again since it has been 15 years without any adjustments to my medication, but ai’m terrified of seeing someone new and then diagnosing me with schizophrenia or think I’m experiencing psychosis due to how delusional these thoughts sound. I’m scared to be misdiagnosed, even though I have always just been diagnosed with ocd. But maybe I have changed… I hate these thoughts and I just worry they’re too bizarre for ocd. If this isn’t something else. I’m scared ERP won’t help with this or that it will make it worse, prolonging me from getting different help that I may need instead. Thank you for reading all of this.

Dating paranoia

I've just started dating this really great girl. She doesn't know about my ocd which is fine but I've noticed that a lot of my intrusive thoughts and worries about not following routines now revolve around losing her or her believing I'm a bad person. I just don't want this relationship to make me so paranoid. I also know have this where if I see a girl on my Instagram or on the Internet, I'll feel an overwhelming urge to clean myself and the device I viewed it on. This is part of a moral reaction and I also worry I'm not being loyal. I feel I should try and not follow through with these compulsions but as they now revolve around keeping my girlfriend I'm not sure. Any advice?
