ROCD
Does OCD cause intrusive thoughts and doubts and is that how they are related to OCD?

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Intrusive thoughts maybe an unwanted image or thought, a thought that goes against your values or desire (ego dystonic). The problem with ocd is that unlike the average person who has the same thoughts and moves on from them immediately without issue is people with ocd quite literally obsess over the thought and why we had the thought, what it means, etc. and then anxiety comes along and turns everything up. With rocd, it can make us question everything about a relationship or marriage. I have this theme from time to time and it really makes me question if my wife is a good spouse or “the one” because she said something I don’t like or whatever. Even though we’ve been married for going on 6 years. It also heightens everything about myself of looking at someone else and finding someone else attractive and feeling guilty about that or my thoughts going through fantastical scenarios where I envision life with someone else, etc etc. ocd makes every thought feel like it needs to have a reason or meaning when in reality it doesn’t. I hope your ocd isn’t too loud this evening. Here if you need to talk.
@alan87 Yes thank you so much! I can relate to the ROCD stuff. I’m just thinking like can ROCD make me feel this way - as in uncertain and doubtful about my relationship or can ROCD actually CAUSE me to have these intrusive thoughts?!
@Mk3 I’ll put it this way, everyone has these thoughts. They are normal to have. The thing with us that have ocd is that our thoughts get stuck on repeat and/or they cause our mind/body to go into a fight or flight response. You are not alone. The thing that helps me sometimes is just sitting with the anxiety and uncertainty, doing the best to not pay it any attention. Change your self-talk to more positive dialogue. You are deserving of love and compassion. And then just distracting from the thoughts, play a mobile game or practice a grounding technique. I pray sometimes as well. I am Catholic and praying to Jesus or leaning on Him helps a bit too.
@alan87 Thank you I appreciate the advice! I think I get stuck because everyone says different things are acceptable or not to think, feel, do in a relationship. But at the same time I’m thinking my ROCD is making me latch onto this thought or whatever that is probably not important or normal to have or others may think is silly. But in reality everyone has different opinions of relationship stuff and someone out there probably thinks it is important and not normal! It’s scary I’m just in the weeds overthinking
So basically the entire premise of OCD is intrusive thoughts that are unwanted, distressing, and in some cases incapacitating— these are the obsessions. The doubting begins as a result of the obsessions, and some sort of behavior or ritual is preformed to attempt to relieve the distress— these are the compulsions. For some people, like myself, the cycle might look like this: *going about my business and thought pops into my head* what if I have a brain tumor? *I begin to obsess about this thought* as a result, I perform checking compulsions. Assessing my body, how I’m feeling, thinking over previous events to try and determine if my behavior or symptoms align with a brain tumor. It goes on and on until we can successfully break the cycle. I’m not sure if that helps but I tried!
