OCD / menstrual cycle
Does anyone feel a significant increase in intrusive thoughts and also feel more likely to perform compulsions when you’re in your literal phase and into even having your period?

Yes more anxiety the week of my period and then I feel like the week after my period I start feeling very emotional and crying a lot.
@Anonymous Okay I feel like sometimes after I get my period I feel better but this cycle was so bad that I feel like even after my period was technically done I still felt like such an emotional mess. 😢
@Thatgirl_123 It’s so hard navigating OCD and then we have the monthly hormonal shifts on top of it. I was actually talking to my therapist about this last night and he told me to start tracking and see if maybe there is a pattern and if there is then at least I know why I am feeling the way I am during that time. Doesn’t make it suck less though.
@Anonymous Yeah I know being more proactive about it probably helps. I had stopped tracking my period a couple years ago but I started again back in June. I think I need to set reminders in my calendar for when my luteal phase is supposed to start and again when my period starts to remind me that during these times I’m more likely to spiral and try to get ahead of it.
Yes!! Especially when I start my period it’s so frustrating
@burnt_pizza It is frustrating! I feel like my thoughts become too much and unable to control.
100 percent
yeah it’s literally horrible
Yes!!!
My anxiety gets worse right before my period starts.
@Alliesun That makes sense! I feel like your luteal phase (which can be even up to 14 days before your period for some people) is when your body starts to feel the changes. I definitely get so much more anxious too
Yup… cause we don’t go through enough
Yes 😭 its miserable
Yes! Right the week after ovulation is HORRIBLE!
Yup and I got diagnosed with PMDD!
@Anonymous Ugh that sucks I’m sorry )-: I think I might have PMDD too. How did you get diagnosed?
@Thatgirl_123 I’m sorry to hear that too😭 I spoke with my gyno about my mental health and how it fluctuates during the month. She REALLY helped so I def recommend talking to ur doctor :)
@Anonymous Cool thank you I’ll schedule an appt. Are you on any medication for it?
@Thatgirl_123 Ofc! My gyno prescribed an SSRI and birth control for PMDD to control my symptoms
Absolutely! I’m a different person! From finishing my period to ovulation I am confident and feel straight and have attraction to men and can managed the fewer intrusive thoughts but like a day after ovulation up into my period I’m so different….convinced I’m a lesbian, Totally inconfident, just want to eat rubbish and not go to the gym it’s awful! It’s like a switch I’m a completely different person 🙈🙈
@jag92 Yeah that’s a good way to describe it. I feel like a different person too. I feel like I don’t recognize myself when I’m in these deep feelings of emotion and mental stress. My thoughts feel so uncontrollable.
totally!
Yes!!! You are not alone I’m a anxious mess the week before and during my period
