How can I ask parents for therapy?

Sorryy I should've specified,, by survey it was basically questions asking "have you been feeling _ for _ days" and similar things, and depending on the answers it just notifies the counseler.. so it doesn't give any results back besides the counselors alert. But the counselor idea mayyy work, I'll just have to see how it goes initially. Thank you for the kind wishes tho ! <3

@VVbee Oh yea I have done those things in school before. Your already better at this than me, you accept help from school counselors 😅

@💜Cinderella💜 Ehh it took a longgg time and I'm still hesitant..! They don't give you an option at first either you just have to go down when given the pass :,) but thankfully my counselor is nice so I allow myself to accept help little by little

I don't think so.. it's not really about specifying more so just telling them what it's about. My parents asks a lot of questions haha, so if they want to know why I want to be in school therapy I'll hypothetically say "it's due to anxiety" and they'll respond with "But what anxiety? You should join into a club instead?" At least that's what they've said in the past about suggesting therapy again.. so that's what I'm kinda stuck on

@VVbee have you told them about your ocd? or have you only told them about your anxiety?

@0542 it's a lot to explainn,, 🥲 many doctors visits to where they've been told that "yes your daughter is experiencing _, it's preferred to prescribe her with medication", and even a time where I began to list my OCD symptoms and it caused some sadness but now it seems forgotten.. I've gone to therapy for a year and took meds but it ended because of financial reasons from what I was told and as well as they weren't happy to see my side effects from the meds. My parents are gen x and Hispanic, so their view on mental health is very old school. They don't see me ripping my hair out and crashing things in the house yelling "I can hear the voices!!" Nor they have much/any knowledge on my deep trauma so they automatically assume = "my daughter is fine." There's been moments where I've expressed my mental state and I've gotten lectures on how "You're too young, you need to breathe and stop watching social media." And there's just sooo much complexity on how it all is. They care for me and I do mean it.. they never push me out in the world if I'm uncomfortable and if I'm sad they never call me dramatic, but they just don't get my mental struggles in the way I wish they could. It's so difficult to explain because I really don't want to make them sound as careless/bad parents, but I can't lie it's a bit frustrating. :,) (Sorry for the rant!)

@VVbee i have ethnic parents too so i understand, it’s almost we have the exact same parents.. I haven’t told my parents about my OCD yet and i’m pretty scared too because they probably will judge me (especially for my POCD) and maybe blame it on social media.. (also no worries about the long reply! i don’t mind!)

@0542 omg, I'm so glad you could understand ! TT It's hard when they initially aren't as well informed with mental illness, so it'd definitely be MUCH harder with explaining OCD. In my opinion, OCD is the disorder that gets most really easily misinterpreted and turned into something else, and explaining to them about my certain subtypes, I'm so scared they'll be like "you actually feel that way?" Or ask something that can possible lead me to getting into a serious lecture by them, and ahhh thinking about it already freaks me out. I definitely understand why you'd feel so scared about explaining your POCD as well.
