ADHD + OCD

Curious to know if anyone has this comorbidity and if you take both a prescribed stimulant as well as a SSRI/SNRI together? I have (diagnosed) ADHD and take Adderall as needed and it has worked wonders for me. However, it’s been years since I’ve taken an SSRI. I’ve been fortunate enough to manage my (diagnosed) OCD for the last few years but I’m currently experiencing a flare-up that’s been really kicking my butt. I’m going through a period of high stress and wanted to know if anyone suffers from these two diagnoses as well and what your experience has been like. I know this may seem like a compulsion but I promise it’s not lol. I’m not sure why I feel so reluctant to get back on an SSRI and why I feel stuck on this current OCD episode, but it would be nice to know if those of you have taken both meds and how you manage. Hello! I’m AuDHD and OCD. I take Vyvanse (stimulant) and Zoloft (SSRI). I haven’t had any issues using both medications daily. I take Vyvanse every morning and Zoloft each night and have been doing this for over a year. No side effects. Not sure if that helps at all.

@alan87 Not really. I also take Trazodone (a sleep medication). I’ve been taking Trazodone since way before I started on stimulants though. I wouldn’t say I have notice more sleep issues since starting stimulants. I know that can happen for people sometimes though.

@Anonymous It’s me again lol. I thought about this question a little more and wanted to add… i think the answer depends on the reason you are struggling to sleep. I do think it is possible that Zoloft could support sleep if you are struggling with intrusive thoughts at night. I went through a phase where this was a problem for me and after upping my dose I realized that those thoughts we a trillion times weaker and the compulsions felt more avoidable. If your sleep is affected by general insomnia or something like that (which mine often is), I’m not sure that Zoloft makes a major difference.

I have both ADHD and OCD. I can't speak to the stimulant part. But I have been taking Lexapro and took other SSRIs in the past for anxiety (prior to ADHD diagnosis a year ago). I was prescribed Wellbutrin to pair with the Lexapro for my ADHD. Which helped so much. But then I wasn't feeling anxious and wanted to try weaning off the Lexapro to see how it went. My OCD spiked as I lowered my dose and that lead to my OCD diagnosis and then my ERP therapy. Had my psychiatrist known I had OCD, she probably wouldn't have let me drop Lexapro. Currently taking Wellbutrin and a higher dose of Lexapro and I'm doing a lot better. I'm in therapy 3x a week. Not sure if that perspective is helpful. It's hard to be experiencing a flare up and be changing meds at the same time. I remember to be kind to myself and just show up the best I can. 🫶🏽 Sending you support.

I take Lexapro and Vyvance. Wasn’t for ocd( just got diagnosed) it was anxiety but it helped obviously. I’m on very low doses of both and pairing it with therapy. Not really had any issues either. Some basic symptoms like increased heart rate, dry mouth, low labido, weird dreams. Nothing intense but I wouldn’t up my doses. though my doctor does to blood tests every visit. Not fun :/ my previous doctor didn’t do that though? so you might be chill
