Advice?
My partner tries so hard to reassure me when I start spiraling, but after five or six times of repeating himself, I completely understand why he can start to feel frustrated. Unfortunately, when I sense that frustration, it only makes the spiral worse. I get so caught up in my thoughts that I end up asking unfair questions or making statements that don’t actually reflect what I think, feel, or believe about him or our relationship. The hardest part is that I can sometimes recognize in the moment that I’m being irrational, but knowing that doesn’t make the thoughts stop or make it easier to control my reactions. It feels like my mind is moving faster than I can reason with it, and before I know it, I’ve reacted to something I didn’t even truly mean. What scares me the most is the thought that I’m going to push him away or somehow ruin our relationship because of these spirals. I love him deeply, and I don’t want my anxiety or intrusive thoughts to become a burden that he has to constantly carry for me. I don’t know how to stop this pattern yet, and that genuinely scares me. I want to learn how to handle these moments better for myself, but also because for him.
