OCD and weed
Is it okay? Any experiences with smoking weed and OCD? What was it like the first time you smoked? Can weed be addictive or is it specifically addictive to people with OCD? Did your intrusive thoughts go away?

like the other commenters here, it's been a mixed bag for me as well. sometimes it really helps my anxiety but occasionally it increases paranoia and intrusive thoughts. i use edibles and finding the right combination of cannabinoids definitely helped. i have also struggled with the worry of "what if i'm addicted?" (which im quite sure objectively is not the case, and my partner is not concerned about it at all) but compulsive behavior can look very similar to addiction and there have been times my use felt compulsive. i think for me it is mostly rooted in shame and guilt for using it which i am doing my best to work through... tldr just be cautious with it, everyone's experience is different
@a.lea i'd say definitely avoid sativas, stick with either indica or hybrid
I feel like it could be different for everyone, but it sometimes makes mine worse. I'm not sure if something else is at play for me though because I've been a heavy smoker for years and it's only started to change recently
it depends. weed can increase paranoia. but it can also relax you. i recommend if you try it to take the tiniest bit. if edible or one hit if smoke. notice the effects, and then see where you at. what you don't wanna do is take so much and get mega stoned. i have somatic ocd and health ocd and i've been a heavy smoker for years and that can still freak me out.
How do you know you're not addicted?
@ezzieorsomething there are physical withdrawals. it is physically addictive. i’ve smoked for a decade and it helps me but spreading medical misinformation doesn’t help anyone. please don’t tell people it’s not chemically addicting or habit forming
Funny I saw this as I’m high off some edibles lol. I would say mixed bag like most others for sure. Sometimes the thoughts are worst(typical when I didn’t do erp before or consistently) that’s when it creeps up and is like “let’s ruin this high as much as possible” but other times, I’m just chilling eating and watching what brings me comfort and doing a craft or playing games
Funnily enough, I am also high, eating, crafting and watching my favourite things! It’s so good for my OCD and anxiety but sometimes if I have too much I’ll overthink more!
I used to smoke a lot when I was a teenager and it was really good, I would eat, laugh, and just have a great time. But after the pandemic, that changed. Every time I tried it after that, my anxiety and OCD would get so much worse, it felt absolutely horrible. So I don't smoke anymore because I know it wouldn't do me any good right now. But I'm not saying never again, you know? Maybe someday. Honestly, I don't think there's a rule that works for everyone. My dad always told me I should only smoke if I'm in a good place in life, because if you're not feeling well, the high can turn really bad. And that's exactly what happened to me. If you're thinking about trying it for the first time, my advice is to be around people you love and feel safe with. I get that it's nice to read about other people's experiences, but it's also good not to overthink it too much, because OCD loves to overanalyze everything, and weed can make the paranoia worse. Just have your own experience with people who care about you, and don't treat anything as an absolute truth :)
