Has anyone ever used Fluvoxamine for OCD? Did it cause massive sleep onset insomnia? I've only been on 25mg for 3 weeks, and it's working wonders for my retroactive jealousy, but the insomnia it's causing is almost worse than the ruminating thoughts. I've tried taking it at all different times of the day, with countless sleep aids, but I cannot consistently fall asleep.
Hi! When I started taking fluoxetine(Prozac) six months ago I experienced the exact same thing couldn’t sleep for a few weeks and then around week 4 everything started to level out and I was able to sleep and the rumination got so much better. I know it’s a different drug but I say to hang in there at least another week they typically say SSRI’s take 4-6 weeks to really get into your system.
Dealing with sleep issues myself but they usually pass. Call your Dr and see if there's other options because rest is quite honestly better than any med I know of. Staying asleep is my problem, very frustrating
He said to take Ambien and/or Clonazepam. While I'm sure that'd knock me out, that seems like a heavy CNS combo, and they're both habit forming meds. He did say not to take them everyday, and maybe substitute with Hydroxyzine, which sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. However, after 3 days with only 6 hours sleep, I'm pretty desperate to just get one solid night at this point.
@Anonymous I don't blame you at all. Couple of things I've noticed is if I don't spend time outside or doing something physically active during the day I usually have a hard time with sleep. Also try to stay off of phones and TV for an hour before bed (yes it makes a difference lol).
@theycallme... I've tried all the sleep hygiene suggestions. Ambien worked for 2 nights, for 4 hours, then nothing the 3rd night. I might try and wean off Fluvoxamine and just continue my ERP for the one ruminating thought loop I had. I've never really needed meds or had issues sleeping before. While the 25mg of Fluvoxamine helped with the initial ruminating thoughts, I don't think the benefits are outweighing the risks at this point. I miss coffee, pomegranate juice, and more importantly, SLEEP! I do have an appointment with a sleep MD this afternoon. I'm sure it'll consist of CBT-I which is scary to get up, go back down, repeat, but it's supposed to be the gold standard.
Hi! I had a similar experience on fluoxetine. My psychiatrist prescribed me trazodone to help with sleep. I personally didn’t like it because it made me feel groggy in the morning, but I know it works wonders for a lot of people. I ended up switching to and SNRI (duloxetine) paired with buspirone and I’ve been on that for 2 years now with great success. I’m a big believer in medicine, and I think it’s all about trial and error until you find the one that works right with you. Hang in there, you got this!
I've thought about trazedone and busiprone, but they but seem to have a potential major interaction with SSRIs. However, I know my psychiatrist mentioned but as well, and it's comforting to hear they're working for you with no issues.
