Ive always watched hunting videos and envy the people who are able to, my harm ocd has me scared of guns tbh
Me! I hunt. Mostly whitetail deer, but I’ve also bear hunted. It’s something that I’ve done with my dad since I was very young.
@Taylor F. How is your ocd with hunting I’ve had nothing but hell from my ocd because it’s something that really ment a lot to me
@earlm What do you struggle with most? It’s interesting for me because it’s one of the things I don’t struggle with as much. I’m cautious about dirt and bugs. Ticks, especially. I wear gloves cleaning a harvest… but otherwise, I do okay. I’m confident in my firearms safety, so that’s not an issue for me. I’ve actually been asked by my fiancé how I can “do” things involved with hunting but have so many issues with other stuff that seems less “dirty” or “scary” to most. It blows my mind too…
@Taylor F. It’s more about moral and religious ocd stuff like about the actual hunting
@earlm I totally agree with the comment about how it’s interesting that each of us have different issues with hunting. I wish you the best and hope you’re able to find what makes you feel comfortable. I could understand how one might have concerns from that perspective. For myself, I make sure and only harvest what I will use and no more. For example, I don’t hunt turkey because I don’t care to eat it. It would be wasteful and not beneficial. It’s something I enjoy doing with my dad and it sustains us nutritionally. I enjoy knowing where my food came from and how it was processed.
@Taylor F. Good on you mate sounds good in Australia we have a lot of pests that I wouldn’t eat though like fox’s and feral cats
My kids hunt and I’ve been to both the rifle and archery ranges with them. The rifles set off my OCD way more than the bows.
@Amy B. America? And what do they hunt ?you sound like a great mum 🙂
@earlm Elk, deer, and one has done a turkey hunt too. They are teens and have had great experiences they’ll remember all their lives, and I’m super happy they are doing it. I just wish OCD wasn’t looming over it, like it does everything cool. My OCD fears around hunting have to do with health and equipment safety, I don’t have any fears about me harming anyone. What type of OCD do you have around it?
@Amy B. More religious type stuff and moral ocd and yeh the ocd is a party pooper lol ruins everything I’ve spent 28 years hunting boar 🐗 over here in Australia and also professionally as a job to
@earlm It’s interesting how all of us who posted have issues around hunting, but for each of us it’s different. How one thing can seem like the end of the world to one person, and the other person isn’t phased by that, but there is something else gnawing at them. I’m sorry you are struggling with this, and hope things get better for you.
@Amy B. Your so right it’s just terrible isn’t it I hope we all gain strength to beat this
