@ocdbelowzero false memories are a common occurrence in ocd, you're not alone i promise. i know it seems difficult but to fight them, you have to let them be. it sounds counterintuitive, but it shows your brain they're nothing to fear. i imagine them as leaves flowing down a river. your intrusive thoughts/false memories might be bigger, more dirty leaves than the rest of the leaves flowing down. but you should let them slowly flow by without picking the leaf up and examining it (aka, ruminating on the thoughts, fighting them, or any form of engagement) i hope that made sense. keep fighting

@ocdbelowzero This is super common with OCD. The OCD wants to torture you with false memories. Once you know that this is how the OCD works, you can start practicing ignoring it . It's not easy to ignore it, because the OCD is always screaming for our attention. That is why I say you have to PRACTICE ignoring it. But just remember, the more you practice, the easier it will get, and the more you will defeat the OCD. You can consider this most recent episode as excellent PRACTICE ground for you to start using your OCD tools. Remember, God knows that you are human. And he knows that we are all imperfect. He loves you, and everything is OK. Here's what I want you to do. I want you to do NOTHING about the false memories. The OCD wants us to always try to fix and fix and fix. It wants us to remember things perfectly. It wants us to solve things. It wants us to ruminate. But I am telling you, instead, that in this case you need to do nothing. Just go back to work. Talk to people on the phone. Do the dishes. Walk the dog. Let the OCD scream in the background. Let the OCD tell you that you need to solve this. Let the OCD tell you that you are a terrible person. Let the OCD throw a complete tantrum . But you are going to continue life as usual. It will feel very uncomfortable to do this. It will feel like something BAD is going to happen, because you are ignoring the OCD. But I want you to keep practicing moving on with your life, no matter how uncomfortable it is, and no matter how icky you feel inside. You can do this! Spend some time practicing! @ocdbelowzero I know how you are feeling. I've been there. In my OCD spirals, I've gotten to places where I just want to curl up in bed. I've been in places where it felt like fear was flowing through my body, like a low-grade fire. I've been in places, where I felt like my entire life and eternal destiny was probably lost, and everything in my life was going to crumble into dust. But you know what? In the end, it all wasn't real. It was just OCD. And I was listening to OCD. It's very hard to act like the OCD is not in the background. I know how you feel. My mother-in-law explained it like this. She called it swimming parallel. This means you're still doing the same things you would always do, but you feel yucky inside. You are living a "parallel" life to what you would live if you did not have OCD. You're still doing the same things. But inside, you feel like everything is falling apart. That's OK. The more you practice, the more the OCD loses its power. Eventually, the OCD is going to figure out that it doesn't have any power to torture you anymore. And it'll stop trying so hard to give you false memories, because even if it does, it's not going to work. I'm so sorry this is happening. Sending hugs. It's so hard. Please remember, that it is OKAY to allow yourself to feel all the yucky feelings. You don't have to push the feelings aside. You can feel everything, if you want to. The point is that he keeps living life anyway .

The OCD spiral that you are facing is just the same as every other OCD spiral that everyone gets from time to time. The particular theme might vary from person to person, but the OCD operates the same way in everyone's life. What does the OCD say? It says you are a terrible person. It says that the situation is an absolute catastrophe, and all is lost. It says that there's no redemption after what you did. It is a black hole of despair. OCD says if you break any rules, then all is lost. This is not Grace. And this is not the gospel. The gospel says that we are GOING to break rules sometimes, because we are human. And that God actually forgets about our sins, and that God uses every mistake for GOOD. it is exactly the opposite of OCD.
