My bestfriend and I are both Christians. My other friend is an Atheist. I don’t care she doesn’t have the same beliefs as me and only want the best for her. With that being said her and my bestfriend have been having augments about their beliefs and I feel like she’s starting to make my bestfriend rethink her faith. This would be none of my business if my bestfriend didn’t send me photos of their texts when they were having these little fights. Some of the things my friend is saying to her logically don’t make sense. My bestfriend hasn’t outright asked for my opinion but I feel like at this point I should point out these inconsistencies and let her make the decision but I’m not very good at explaining math or science or really anything. I just know that a lot of people have a problem with Christian’s being pushy or judgy and I want to be neither of those things.

Just remind your friends that God Is all about love. He wants us to love him and love our neighbors. We don’t have to agree with what others believe. But remind your friend that God loves her a wants her to trust him.

@OrchidMom Thanks I’ll do that, I just feel guilty for not explaining things like on a scientific level but I don’t think I’m educated enough to do that. I know it’s her choice but I don’t want her to stop believing because of lies

As an atheist myself religion is beautiful and it’s super cool! It can be hard to have conversations about religion between two opposing views and being in the south I definitely have had my fair share of hard talks lol. However, I think important thing that I to apply to my best friends, family, even my partner who are all of faith is coming with respect when we talk about our beliefs. I’m not sure what the texts are but maybe it’s worth bringing up to both of them if the conversations are harmful or making the other feel dumb to come with more grace. It’s important conversations are had to get an understanding rather than to prove the other wrong! I’m glad you care so much for you friend and honestly I would say that, regardless of how she feels or what changes or if she remain the same that you still love her, but remind her gently that her faith is her own her beliefs are her own and she doesn’t have to change them immediately. You could even gently point out some of the conversation and gently ask her what she thinks of it before immediately going into defense or pointing out inconsistencies. It may help her circle back and really think about the conversation now that she has someone on her side to talk about it with!

@saturnaliaaa Yes! I will love her regardless of her choices and I love my other friend just as I always have too. I’m also in the South and feel like religion is definitely a touchy subject. My friend doesn’t really want to learn about religion and blocks it out due to bad experiences with life in general. She said today that all religions were made strictly for comfort and there was no beginning to the universe. I disagree with both of those statements. I just feel like she hasn’t put much thought into her words and wish she would dive deeper into things. I feel like everyone has their list of reasons for choosing their path. Since you’re from the south you probably know that Christianity is pushed a lot of the time and while I absolutely love when people come to God but churches aren’t always open to everyone like they should be. Thanks for responding though I will definitely tell her to try researching for herself and not just go along with what other people say.

Let her know that you will pray for her to have the faith to understand what science cannot prove.
