I've had fluvoxamine prescribed to me for my OCD/anxiety for 2 months now and have yet to try it out because I'm scared it could make me feel emotionless or have some sort of psychosis feeling side effect. Has anyone taken this for their OCD and does it give bad side effects? Should I just take the leap and try it? I'm so scared 😨
I was on it from April until like 3 days ago. It’s a super outdated medication and multiple psychiatrist told me it’s a last resort med because of the horrible side effects and how many there are. I had to get off because, besides gaining 40 lbs, I developed rashes (another side effect) and I was actually so full of emotion that I thought I was trailing into psychosis. I would bust out crying and not be able to control it and sometimes didn’t even know why. I wasn’t in psychosis but the side effects make everything so counterproductive to progress. Anxiety and paranoia was out of control. I would never recommend it and my current psych has been waiting for me to be willing to try something else.
Well this just made my anxiety to try it even worse. My psychiatrist said the opposite to me, she told me it has little to no side effects and that it's one of the best meds for OCD. Now I probably won't ever try it. Idk what to try because other meds have made me feel how you just said. And now I'm just scared to try anything 😭
@JohannaNickole It’s known to cause behavior changes and based on what you said, maybe try something else. I’m still figuring out what works for me but luvox seems like it’s effective for people that have ocd and no other diagnosis. I’m just starting my experience though. It’s different for everyone. You can always try it and change it if it’s not having desired outcomes :)
@Mimi :P I definitely have way too high of anxiety to have any type of behavior changes happen. Even the smallest chance that could happen scares me. I'm a SAHM to small little ones and I just hate to take any risk of being more paranoid or anxious than I already am.
@JohannaNickole I totally empathize with your situation. It’s very scary to take the risk. Have you expressed anything to your psych?
Fluvoxamine is specifically FDA approved for OCD, not that it means it’s necessarily the best, just one of a handful of SSRIs that are used to treat OCD. I have never tried it, but just because one person has a bad experience with it, doesn’t mean you will. Everyone is different as I’m sure you know. If you try it and it’s not for you, you can always switch to something else.
@Anonymous As I clearly said that too, she was asking for experiences with it and that’s why I gave mine. She also said it’s not an option to just try something and switch since she has little kids that would also be affected. Have the day you deserve💙
@Mimi :P Sorry, didn’t mean you specifically. Clearly, you had a bad experience with the medication as I have with couple of other medications. But even on the ones where I’ve had bad experiences, other people swear by them. That’s all I was emphasizing. Have a great Thanksgiving!
