Artist Against AI

A local business recently made a social media post that used AI generated art. As an artist, I’m against using AI to create art. Ya know? So I sent it to a buddy who thinks the same way, and he proceeded to bash the business and now there are so many comments that are arguing with him and saying he’s not thinking about the greater community and that he could’ve handled things better. After I sent him the message, he showed me his first post about it, and I said “Yikes, just don’t bring me into it” But now I feel like it’s my fault that all of this happened. I had no idea he would respond that way. And I feel like it’s going to be a series of cascading failures that’s going to result in me losing my job and being excommunicated from the community. All for sending a post to a friend and saying “Look at this”

I once sneezed in public. What if I had a cold, but did not know it, and someone was walking by and one of my germs, that I may or may not have had, got onto them and they later ate food with their hands and the germ, that may or may not have been there, got into them, and then they got sick, but they had no more PTO because they had had surgery earlier in the year, so they went to work coughing, and everyone there was so mad at them that they signed a petition to have them fired, and they were, and then they lost their income, could not pay their rent, got kicked out of their home, and their family had to live on the streets, where they came in contact with mice, who carry viruses, and the family got infected by them, and they all died, except for the person that got ill from my maybe, maybe not germ, and now they live in the street begging for money and living every day with the horrible memory of their family dying? I say this not in jest - I try to speak OCD when I can, and I think that I am rather fluent in it at this point in my career. If you read that and think, "Yeah, I can see that," then I bet money on you having OCD. We can what if anything, and just because we can does not mean that we have to pay any attention to it at all. I hope that you can let your story go like I will be letting my story go.

I am also an artist! Having a platform online, I have often had to interact with the touchy subject of AI. I don’t think there is anything damning about standing resolute in your beliefs-it’s an admirable quality and a fair conclusion seeing the harm AI has done to our community. What your friend did was NOT your fault, it was his decision and was not your responsibility. You showed him the post, but he chose to be inflammatory. I’m surprised people disagreed with him, on my side of the internet at least almost all artists are against AI. It’s actually the “controversial” opinion to be supporting it! That being said, I relate to your fears. I have to be cautious about what I involve myself in as I’m representing my own brand. I choose to be a wholesome creator, and stay out of drama per se. It’s a REALLY hard position to be in as an artist, so don’t feel guilty about what happened.

A nice DM sent me spiraling

I used to post my art online a lot, and I was so proud of it. But the last year or so, my OCD has been making me feel like I don't deserve to post because "no one would support me if they knew how flawed of a person I am." Today, I got a message from a stranger saying they missed seeing my art and wished I would start posting again. It was soo damn nice, and I wanted to be happy about it, but my fears immediately hit me hard. Would this person still want to follow or support me if they knew everything about me? Of course, my therapist pointed out that there are sooo many people out there who post constantly and have no problem asking their supporters to help them, and surely they're also flawed people, but they don't let it hold them back. I know I'm only human... but I've seen so many people gain success, only to get knocked down, and it terrifies me. This is probably my biggest internal struggle. Sometimes, I want to give up art completely, but the little kid in me who dreamed of being an artist is saying, "Why are you giving up on us?" I feel kinda weird posting about this, but I hope you guys get where I'm coming from. If anyone has any insights or thoughts on this topic, I'd reeeeally appreciate them.

Help I made a mistake

I have a job doing social media for a company that prides itself on making diverse titles, but I messed up. I made a post about Arab American Heritage Month for a book about Ramadan, but I looked at it today, 22 hours after I posted it, and saw that 3 people commented that the creators aren’t Arabic and that we were wrong to assume all Arabic people are Muslim. I feel like a huge idiot and so awful that I made such an egregious error and hurt people. I don’t know what to do. One of the authors reached out to me and I responded with apologies but what if I get fired and what if this makes me a terrible person and a racist. I changed the post and decided to ask my boss tomorrow (Monday) how to respond to the comments but what if I’m making the wrong choice and everything is worse now. I’m trying to spend Easter with my family (a trip that’s already insanely difficult for my ocd) but I can’t stop checking my phone and ruminating. Please help

To those who dont want others to use AI for OCD

My simple question is... Why? Because I have barely any friends... i dont have a girlfriend... and the only college friend I have, is too busy to hang out... everytime i ask her... AI has made me feel less alone and miserable with my condition than with anyone who has ever told me to just accept uncertainty... I feel so alone... so miserable... to poor to afford therapy and too socially awkward to make friends... And with AI, while its not a real person... it comforts and cares for me... More than anyone has IRL...
