Is pregnancy ocd even a theme?

@Mika05 Somatic OCD is involved because you may be hyper-focused on physical sensations and body functions. Even though the main fear is pregnancy, a lot of your compulsions revolve around checking your body, monitoring symptoms, and overanalyzing sensations. Pressing on your stomach to check for “abnormalities” is a somatic OCD compulsion because it comes from the need for certainty. The more you focus on sensations, the more intense they can feel, which just fuels the anxiety. So while the obsession is about pregnancy, the constant body checking and hyper-awareness of physical sensations fit into somatic OCD too. I hope this helps!

@Mika05 Somatic is one of the worst ones, I have it. Overly-focused on breathing, blinking, swallowing, feelings, and symptoms

Hello. Thanks for your reply. How did you get over it? Also should I mention it to my psychiatrist?

@Mika05 I never got over it, just used double, triple, quadruple protection while guys thought I was crazy, and then eventually quit messing around with them altogether so I wouldn’t even need to worry. It just wasn’t worth the drama and guilt afterwards. Yes, you could mention to your psychiatrist, he/she might have some better advice.

@Mika05 - You can mention it to your psychiatrist. Don't be surprised if they don't understand or write it off as general anxiety though which unfortunately is common. A lot of professionals don't really understand all the ways that OCD can present. I'd recommend first doing a free intake call with NOCD. They are specialized in OCD and can provide a diagnosis and treatment and can work in conjunction with your psychiatrist (if you wanted).

@Mika05 - Looks like as of right we have 3 therapists that can see people in Greece! I'm not sure what the situation was a month ago, it's possible there wasn't anyone available then but now there is.

@winterdays + I remember having this theme waaayy before I lost my virginity, I was 13! 🥲 it was around that time I realised I had OCD lol

@Mika05 I’m still working on it! I have bad health OCD and when I have this type of intrusive thoughts, including the pregnancy theme, I usually examine myself trying to look for symptoms, search on the internet or ask my mom for reassurance, etc.; all of which are compulsions. I don’t go to therapy (but I’m going to begin very soon, luckily), so I had to learn some coping mechanisms by myself but they don’t always work; I usually try to rationalise these thoughts, or try to get distracted, but you know you can also see these as compulsions :,) actually the pregnancy theme isn’t as worrying as other health-related themes lately because it’s been some time since I’ve had sexual relations. Also I take medications so OCD isn’t as bad as it was when I last struggled with this theme!
