Hey guys I’m thinking on starting ssri but I’m very scared it will change me and my personality idk. I am a mom and I’m worried I’ll be more of a burden. I just want to be fight for me. My Dr suggested meds. I have been having anxiety for 9 + years and I’m stuck and I know I need a change
The right SSRI won’t change who you are! You’ll just be a more regulated version of yourself. The first one you try might not be the right one so if you don’t like how it makes you feel, tell your doctor and try something different. I’m on my third SSRI and it’s amazing. I feel so much better and I have no negative side effects
Hi, I felt the same way before starting because of all the stigma around medication, but it's been helping me a lot. I'm on Zoloft right now. It's only been 7 weeks for me (4 weeks on 25mg, 3 weeks on 50mg), and the physical symptoms of the anxiety are nearly gone. I didn't really feel any positive changes until after upping to 50mg. I'm still dealing with intrusive thoughts, so I might ask if we can up the dose to 70mg, but it is different for every person. I agree with the comment above; the right SSRI won't change who you are! :)
My SSRI has done absolute wonders for me. It doesn’t change who you are at all, trust me. Other than bringing out the good qualities you already have! It just helped you think more positively and have a better attitude. Don’t be afraid - you’ll be ok. Even if a particular med doesn’t work you can always try another! But remember, give it a fair chance..some meds take several weeks/months to reach its full effect. Good luck :) you got this!

Hi friends. I like to think that most days I am in the drivers seat of my ocd, I’ve came a long way with ERP and medication. However, today has been a rough day. My ocd and anxiety both seem to be kicking back in lately. I’ve been dealing with a waxing and waning symptom flare for about a year now. I have never switched my medication. I’ve only went up in dosage, I am now on the maximum dose of my SSRI. (200mg Zoloft) and I’ll say that for the past year it has not packed the punch as it used to. It worked really well for the first 4 years. I did have to titrate up in dosage over that time. I am still functioning, in school, sleeping and working so that says a lot. However, it’s still hard and getting in the way of living life at my fullest potential. (So much time spent thinking about things that don’t even pertain to my life) I have been better than this. OCD and anxiety used to be maybe a once a month occurrence for me. Now it is half the month. Does anyone have any experience with their medication pooping out on them and not working as well? Or having to change from one medication to another? All your advice would be helpful. Thank you!
Hi all, I’ve never posted on here before. I got diagnosed with OCD about a year ago. My therapist is incredible and I did start taking some SRI’s which also made my symptoms really go down. However the last week it’s like I’m back to my old symptoms of insane anxiety and not being able to sleep. I want to see if anyone has also experienced this and basically want to know if it gets better again. I’m terrified of having to change my dose for my SRI’s it doesn’t sit right with me. Thanks ❣️
Hi. I’m writing this post because I don’t know if I should be medicated again. Lexapro worked well for me, but I gained like 30 pounds. I quit because of that and honestly I thought I was able to manage my OCD well better. I was wrong, it got worse again. I wish I can do this without medication…that’s why I expose myself everyday, doesn’t matter how drained and exhausted I get. Are you guys medicated or trying to go without medicine. How is it going for you guys? Many hugs for all of you. We got this.
