Hi all, I’m curious is anyone taking medicine for their OCD and if so which one and is it helping? I’ve been on Prozac for almost 7 weeks and I just don’t think it’s doing much. I’m only on 30mg so perhaps I need to get to 40.
Not to be rude, but contrary to the other commenter, medication can be very helpful. I was on 20 mg of Prozac for anxiety and panic attacks when I was younger and it genuinely saved my life. I was off Prozac for a year or two and am now starting it again for OCD at the recommendation of my therapist and psychiatrist. I’m on 20 mg and at three weeks and not feeling any help either. I’m just hoping over time and with a higher dose it will help. I’m sorry I don’t have any other answers for you! But medication definitely has benefits for people. I would give Prozac the benefit of the doubt if it’s not negatively affecting you, and if later and at a higher dose it’s not helping, talk to your doctor about switching!
I wouldnt rely on medication for ocd. I would deeply commit yourself to ERP therapy and any other cognitive behavior therapies a therapist may suggest. Psychiatric medications have a lot of side effects. Doctors love them because they are so easily obtainable and the pharmaceutical industry pushes the whole serotonin theory. And the doctors and big pharm are in bed together making lots of money. Dont just stop taking the medication cold turkey. If you are interested in getting off it, you have to do it slowly and under dr. guidance. Are you under the care of a therapist right now?
I as well am on 20mg of Prozac. Was on 10mg for 4 weeks and upped to 20 for a week now. It’s made my ocd worse from the jump but I was told 12 weeks on 20mg is a lifesaver for lots of people so I’m trying to hold on for that. I hope once you get to the 12 week mark that it helps us all 🩷

Hello everyone I was recently diagnosed with OCD. I’ve spent the last ten years battle extreme anxiety and obsessive thoughts. I recently started taking Prozac. For once in my life my mind feels calm. However, they just upped my dose and my anxiety is bad and I’m having trouble sleeping this is week 2 on the medication. Anyone else experienced this?
