I have the urge to keep repeating the same prayer so that my dad will never get cancer and I have the urge to do it in specific places and It has to be right now and I'm scared the second I got to sleep with urge unfulfilled Im going to regret
This does sound like OCD. This is something you can work at exposures on with a therapist. My dad got diagnosed with cancer last year. He’s in treatment and I spend lots of time with him. I’m glad you love your dad so much. I’m sure he would want you to be strong for him and to work on healing from this terrible fear you’re dealing with.
@redbud Thank you! I hope your dad gets better soon ❤️ I’m not even diagnosed with ocd because I don’t want to tell my parents so I am always scared I don’t actually have it. Normally I have urges to pray during the day but these feel more random and intense with the specific places that need to be fulfilled. Even if I try to move on the same urge comes back and it feels so much more intense, like I cannot even waste a second before the compulsion. I don’t know if this makes sense but it feels like an itch which needs to be scratched and it’s just so different to the others
@Preena I really encourage you to tell your parents and get diagnosed. I was too scared to do it for many years and looking back I wish I had been braver.
It’s not your responsibility to control whether or not your dad gets cancer :/ That’s the biggest thing I’ve had to learn with prayer compulsions as well. You can pray for him out of love❤️, but you’re not in charge of him getting cancer or not. Especially by the specific place and time of your prayer

It’s just so hard when you know your not responsible but you feel like it and your going to have to live with the guilt if you do something wrong :(( I remember when I first had OCD in 2020 lockdown my brain convinced me my parents would get Covid and die if I ignored my urges to pray and when I stopped doing compulsions we all got Covid so that just makes me more scared. I wish my OCD didn’t involve God.
Its a very anxious night for me as a parent. I went to tuck my child in and i worried with groinal responses i still hugged my child goodnight than worried did i brush up or lean toward them inappropriately and then she was sad i was leaving. I wanted another hug so i hugged her again and ocd tried saying i had bad intent. Its so exhausting fighting ocd as a parent in distress
I constantly think that if I don't pray to God to protect everyone everyday that something bad will happen because I didn't ask to be protected. It's tiring and it sucks. ☹️
Guys it feels so real and im really scared because it feels like i dont care about the thoughts and it feels like im going to do something terrible, its horrific. I am so scared i keep getting urges and images i dont know what to do because i get a whole rush of panic. I think what’s triggered it was my for you page on tiktok, on the Mendez brothers murder cases and The prada guy and im so scared but it feels like im not worried like abt the thoughts or feeling but i am scared pls reply its literally plaguing me in my head idk what to do bc it feels like im gonna do it
